    Default 2-stage foam liner.

So I was checking out Pro-Tec's website for a possible helmet, considering I've purchased three in the past week, and can't get one that fits my giant head right. Bought the Bern Watts EPS, Bell Faction, and Triple 8 Brain Saver. Anyway, I noticed they sell the classic in EPS, and 2-stage. Can anyone explain to me what the purpose in buying a 2-stage foam liner helmet is? I know it's probably a lot more comfortable, but it's not action-sport certified, and it really doesn't seem like it would offer any protection, at all.
