    Default Helmet size ?

I received my bell faction '07 helmet, size lg today. I put it on and the thing is humongous..like an astronaut. Anyone know if the triple 888 helmets are smaller/neater looking, or is it styled the same?

    TIA.

Are you talking looks or fit? If it fits snug, wear it...they all make you look like a bobble head. If it doesn't, return it & use the sizing chart (measure your head). Bell makes good helmets imo.
also, smaller helmet (that fits the same) = less protection.

looks me thinks.....yeah I measured my head, think I could of gotten a medium though. But even so, don't think it would make that much of a difference. I guess I need to look at some pics/videos of peeps wearing helmets. I do believe I've seen folks with neater look skull caps, then again they may have a small head.

I also just tried on my 11 year old daughters GIRO (sm), and that fit a lil snug, so maybe I should order a medium. But still the small looks huge....it will take some getting used to I guess..

I'm all about protecting my skull holmes, I really could give a shite less if it makes me look like an astronaut, ya know?8) I encourage you to do your research, but I'd look more at the safety rating than the cool looks/low profile factor. Just my preference. I know some pro-tec helmets are lower profile than the tsg or faction (and granted, look less bobble head-ish), but it's because they don't have any hard foam in them. I found alot of detailed information by searching the specific helmets I was interested in on this forum. Get a safe one that fits & roll with it /2cents

EDIT: Yup, sounds like you need a medium. And, yes, it does take alot of getting used to, but look at it this way: Do you think your daughter looks goofy with a helmet on? I'm assuming not, and this is how people will see you...not a geek with a helmet, but an older skater dude trying to set a good example (and a father who won't let his kid grow up with a brain damaged daddy). All good stuff

lol..I always thought she looked goofy with it on - but cute goofy. True story, this past winter her class took a field trip to a ice skating rink. So of course I had her wear the helmet. When the wifey came home she told me how all the other mothers were so so impressed etc, and that it was a wise thing to do. She was the only kid with a helmet on. Plus she was a better skater that most of the other kids, since she's been inline skating all the previous year. Now since she's picked up a skateboard, the inlines (i know gay) are collecting dust

All good advice sir, I will order a medium and in black. Guess to save ur head at $9.99 price tag, one shouldn't really complain.

    edit: her pics

Welcome to my world! Big watermelon heads just don't look right in a helmet worth wearing. 7 3/4.
I've got 3 different board helmets but just started wearing one (and all my pads) a little over a week ago because it looked stupid. I finally conceded that I look even worse not wearing a helmet. Customize that big round billboard with some stickers and go. I forget if it was a protec or 888 that I ordered large and had to exchange because of the shape. I think they designed it around these narrow wedge heads and it pinched hard at the temples. The XL I got still had pressure points, so I took a sander to it and ground it out in the bad areas. Ha! kind of like putting wheel wells on a board. The one I'm wearing is a bell.

(helmet alone looks still looks huge but get your elbow and knee pads on and some slide gloves and it kind of comes together. I only wear helmets on my motorcycle in the winter, pretty much for the same waterhead reason. )

... almost sprained my finger due to speed wobble (Fusrodah)

... wheels need to be round to roll well. (aloysius)

... my haters are my motivators. (Ellen DeGeneres)

I've got a 61cm head, so yeah I feel you. Pro-tec, Triple 8, Bern, none of them fit, haha. Well, the Bern XL did, but I wasn't a fan of the bill/hard hat look. So I'm gonna go buy a Bell Faction, it was the only large that fit. Yeah, I get the goofy mushroom shape, but I'll adjust. Gotta have that safe noggin.

    lol..

I just measured meh head again; me got a 58 cm melon. Anyways last night I spent about 3 hours researching helmets on the net. At the end I decided to look kool.. I'll order a Bern. Then researched the pros and cons on them, etc. Before odering online, I stopped by the local Sports Authority and tried on several buckets this morning. The medium protec was too tight, but laying on the shelf in the corning was a matted black bell faction. I tried it on, and it fit perfect and my daugther gave it the tumbs up. So that's what I ended up getting at 29.99 and will be returning the large bell. There's a huge difference between the large and medium'; with the large I looked like a fireman (red bucket), but with with the matt black, I look like a wannabe old skater..

Thanks for all the advice guys!
