My goofy mongo footbrakes are getting better
I can now footbrake at decent flat land cruising speed. My goal is to footbrake at 25 MPH.

Do you normally ride and push regular?
-
Re: My goofy mongo footbrakes are getting better
Nope, I ride goofy with my left foot in the back. My right foot is used for pushing and braking.

Re: My goofy mongo footbrakes are getting better
Why is it a disadvantage to be goofy mongo while footbraking, because i am goofy mongo
-
Re: My goofy mongo footbrakes are getting better
goofy has nothing to do with it.
mongo is dumb for fotbraking at any speed, since putting your weight over the back of the board is a foolish maneuver at best.
Footbrake regular, with your back foot. it's going to get exponentially harder footbraking at 20 and then 25 mph.

Re: My goofy mongo footbrakes are getting better
I've heard the mongo footbrake debate from both camps. There's your's. Then there's MacSpeedMike, he can footbrake at 35 MPH without wobble. Liam Morgan does non-wobble mongo brakes at freeway speeds.
At the same time, I'm practicing front foot balance and lowering my back foot to the ground. Currently feels very awkward. I get good at that then I could footbrake on either side of the skateboard (left regular OR right mongo). Because mongo footbrake is tougher, my newfound balancing skills help me learn this.

Re: My goofy mongo footbrakes are getting better
alright, I did word that post a bit harshly.
This is what I call the "Dizzy Gillespie" argument, which is very similar to the 0.01% argument, if you read my post in the thread about differentiating longboards and kickflippers.
Dizzy Gillespie is one of the greatest trumpet players of all time. He played with his cheeks puffed out because no one taught him otherwise. The reason that literally everyone is taught that you should hold your cheeks in when you play is because it is superior technique. Yes, with ENOUGH practice poor technique can be overcome by sheer dedication, but learning it the "proper" way should be much easier.

Yea man honestly i dont know what to tell you. Im mongo goofy and i footbreak mongo. When i footbreak i sort of transition my back foot to the middle of the board and ive never had a problem footbreaking like that at speed. I keep my break foot close almost touching my board when i put it down and sort of lock my right knee into my left. Ive never got wobbles and i dont run my trucks to tight, and with 90a cones. The only stupid thing ive ever done footbreaking is to put my foot down to hard but ive worked past that...
I dont know how to say that its harder then regular footbreaking. Because of my lack of experience doing so, regular footbreaking is harder for me. The only negative that i have come across is that the transition into and out of a footbreak is a little more complicated. However after awhile of footbreaking this way the transitions have become very quick, fluid, and sort of second nature.

Re: My goofy mongo footbrakes are getting better
^^very interesting mac. kinda proves the point about mongo footbraking, but also provides a nice trick for avoiding it.

Re: My goofy mongo footbrakes are getting better
I used to ride mongo and luckily made the switch to regular about 2 years ago. It helps footbreaking soo much. You wouldn't think about it at first but once you get better at regular footbreaking its a lot easier.

Re: My goofy mongo footbrakes are getting better
Solved the "back of the board" thing by just sliding a 180, taking the new "back" foot off, foot braking backwards, when slow enough tossing another 180 and... Sounds complicated, but it still easier than foot braking regular
Not a fan of the mongo brake, but a 20+ full stop to not get rearranged by a surprise chain across a path proved it works - "safe" is just what you can do.
Pain is how you know you're not a zombie...

I feel that your solution is the antonym of your name.

Ok now i know people say mongo footbreaking is harder but prop's to you my friend. That sounds more difficult then them all. To do that you must know how to ride switch like a champ. And assuming you are a beast at riding switch... why dont you just footbreak the regular way?
