Free helmets

So this might be old but whatever. i was searching on the fish and i saw a post about a foundation. its called the ian tillman foundation. http://www.theiantilmannfoundation.org/index2.html
if you fill out a form, they will send you a free helmet. you have to sign a form that says you will always wear it. so if you dont have the dough to get a helmet or you something. fill out a form.

about the foundation:
(the foundation) was incorporated in November 2005 as a Florida Non-Profit corporation. The Foundation is certified as a Public Charity under the Internal Revenue Code 501(c)(3) with Florida Tax Exemption Certification. Our core mission is brain injury prevention. We accomplish this mission by distributing safety helmets and educational materials throughout our local community. The Foundation educates young people and their families about the dangers and consequences of failing to wear safety gear, particularly helmets. The Foundation promotes safety and brain injury prevention to youngsters and adults engaged in any skating or cycling sport (skateboards, in-line skating, bicycling, and foot powered scooters). Our approach is simple and direct. If you pledge to wear a helmet when skating, the Foundation will give you one...FREE!

Man if I didn't live in Canada I would have been all over this. It doesn't say but I am sure they mean US residents only.

Are you serious? I so want a helmet but im too broke to buy one. I would've so pledged for this but i live in Canada too. Damn.

I dunno that we are out of luck, but I assume we are. Of course I could be wrong. I couldn't find a link that says we can't get one. It would be for my wife, who is just learning. I have a Triple 8. I won't ride without it on no matter what the situation.

I think I might get one too. I've got a drop coming in the mail, but that's not really a helmet for ####### around with. then I'll have a loaner helm too. (gotta get friends into the sport!)

is this actually real? me and my little cousins need some helmets too but we're all to bbroke we spend all our money on boards bearings or wheels.

I hope people don't just see this as a chance to get "fr33 g3ar", as these helmets actually do cost money to pay for them...

I'm warning you, don't take advantage of it unless you need a helmet.

Yeah, please don't abuse it. If you really need a helmet, great, they will provide one for you. I talked to Ian's mother for about an hour a few weeks ago. It's a noble thing that she is doing. I live only 3 hours away from the home of the foundation and I pledged to volunteer at all the events I can, as long as I have enough gas money that day to make in down to Tampa. If I had the money, I would have bought a helmet myself. I hate riding without them. After I moved to FL, my "chrome dome" never showed up. I think I left it my my old garage when I moved out, along with some trucks and a shortboard.

Please don't take advantage of Marcy and Barry. They run this foundation out of their home. Their goal is to save lives.

EDIT: I even know what road Ian fell on.

Yep, I'm not getting one now, mine is just beaten up at the moment, I'm not planning on getting a new one until mine cracks.

so should i get one? i feel bad like i dont have money to get one but i dont have one either and i know i need one i had an accident a while back where i hit my head pretty bad and like have been really phobic on it happening again. my little cousins dont have one but i dont want to happen to them what happened to me even though they really dont find it necessary to have one i do.

Yeah, if you need one, go ahead and get one. I have so much respect for Marcy and Barry. I keep a form in my tool box. She told me if I end up busting mine, send it to her and she will have it replaced. It's pretty cool.

You and your cousins should all get one. The shipping is 7.00 though. Also if people on the fish get helmits maybe a letter of thanks and a pic of you wearin your free lid sent to these people would be really nice.

Good idea. I strongly feel that would be the right thing to do.

Out of curiosity, are they classic bike helmets, or skate helmets?

Go to the first post. Go to the url listed. You can look at the helmits they are giving away. Yes they are skate helmits, very nice I might add at 39.00 not only are these people concerned about your wellfare they are generous as well.

They're actually really nice s one and bern helmets.

I would say that if you can afford a helmet, please, buy it yourself. Don't take advantage of this program if you don't need to. Some kids really don't have the means of buying a helmet. But hey, if you're on that boat, be thankful for the foundation and keep your promise to wear the helmet.

I wasn't asking to take advantage of the deal. My wife is starting to skate now and is recovering from a brain injury from a bad car accident a few years ago. We are on a limited budget till her settlement is finished next year and I wanted to get her a helmet. I won't skate without a helmet and I don't want her to either.
