Default Keeping Knee Pads on in a fall...

So I read on here that it was good to do a "practice" fall with your new knee pads to see how they slide. So I put on my sliding gloves, gave a quick few steps and leap onto my hands and knees. My knee pads immediately slid down and now I'm sporting some bloody knees. They are L protec park pads.

Any tips on how to keep them on during a fall? I tightened them up as far as they'd go and tried again going a bit slower and they stayed on. But I'm worried I'm gonna lose them if I fall going quickly...

    Thanks,
    Dennis

    Are they too big?
Does bloody knees mean you were wearing shorts? If so try it in pants and maybe it won't slip.

I've got 187's and they've not slipped at all but it's got 3 velcro closures and a cinch strap over the lower one.

Buy medium pro-tecs? Sounds to me they are too big. I got L and even if I have the straps loose. It's still sitting tight around my knee.

I got some xgames pads at walmart for $10. They got a sleeve that you have to pull over your foot as well as 2 Velcro straps. I ate zhit in a garage last night and fell straight onto my knees and skid to a stop with no pain/roadrash. I'd say get a pair, comes with elbow pads too.

I'm with the rest, the pads are too big. Being a smaller guy, I too have had a similar problem, although my knees stayed in tact. If you dont want to buy new pads, just get some velcro and attach further down on the tightening straps. Then you can tighten the pads more so they will fit.

    Do you wear them correct?
My TSG's are rather small, but they tend to slide off when I wear them to low. They have to cup my knee in a bit to stay put nicely when falling on rough concrete.

If the problem is due to the size, you could buy some kind of "knee gasket brace" (as TSG calls it).

Basicly it's a neoprene sleeve intended for aditional knee support.
It helps the kneepad stick better to the knee as well - the TSG model even has aditional velcro patches to attach them securely.
They'll give your knee some more "body", so your pads won't be to big anymore.

    On the downside:
    - neoprene tends to be hot, you'll probably sweat a lot with them.
    - those gaskets ain't cheap (one site offers them for $32).
So, if you don't really need the additional support, you could check some medical store (or farmacie) to find a cheaper sticky knee-sleeve.

    Damn guys, good suggestions.

The velcro idea is genius. I have some extra lying around so I hope it works. If not I'll employ one of the other methods. : )

And the damn skate shop employee...I knew they were too big in the shop but he still convinced me to get them.

    No.

If you fall your pads need to stay on. End of argument.

just go back to the store and replace them with smaller ones. Then tell the manager to fire that employee

Hey there, are they less bulky than the ones you tried on Sunday? I'm still on the fence as to whether to buy them or not.

I don't mind bulky kneepads, it means they're cushy and safe. It's LOOSE kneepads that I can't stand.

I got some mountain bike knee pads. These to be exact.

They fit properly, don't inhibit my pushing or riding at all and most importantly.... Stay exactly where I put them when I fall. You should definitely get a different pair if you are having trouble. An investment now will be cheaper than painful surgery and rehab later.

now we're talkin...........bro, you're pads are too big. The other guys gave your solutions, more velcro or go ghetto with the duct tape...........and if duct tape don't fix it.........nothing will..........you'll have to cut your legs off.
