helmet help?
ok, pretty simple question. What is the most low profile, light, helmet you have ever worn or owned? I want a helmet for mild cruising and up to maybe 20mph at the most. I just feel like my triple8 brainbucket is really bulky.
Thanks in advance
yes yes. make them green so i can digest them faster please.

Re: helmet help?
triple eight is soft foam not hard. So you're already sacrificing protection for comfort. You could try a S-one deluxe, or a soft foam protec ace. But most likely, the reason you feel uncomfortable in your helmet is because it might not fit properly.

You realize that while cruising around at 20 mph you could get hit by a car going 50 mph.
Most skate helmets are pretty similar in weight, profile, etc. If you want lighter than a skate specific helmet get a road cycling helmet.
I would also not wear a skate helmet that was not certified or had an EVA (ethylene vinyl acetate) liner. I have never seen a certified helmet with an EVA liner. EVA is commonly used in elbow and knee pads and about 60-70% of the skate helmets on the market.
Every single helmet I have ever seen that is certified had an EPS liner (expanded polystyrene). EPS is the same stuff they use in motorcycle and bicycle helmets.
Inside the helmet and on the box look for CE, CPSC, or ASTM 1492.
I wear a Bell Faction because it was the one that fit me the best, has an EPS liner, and its certified. Bell markets the Faction to skaters, bmx'ers, and dirt jumpers.
Other good certified options would be Protec, POC, and S-One. Protec makes 2 versions of almost all their helmets. One with EVA and one with EPS. The ones with EVA are not certified and the ones with EPS are certified. Same Scenario with S-One.

Drill holes for air, neck, and eyes, and you're good to go.

Helmets are suppose to be bulky. The more foam between your head and an object, the more protection you'd have. I don't think they make low profile helmets that would be effective in a skate related head injury. Stick with the regular helmets. My S-One is on it's way.

Looks like, you got some good advice already.
However, if comfort is difficult, and it was for me w/ all the usual suspects (s-one,bell) then you might want to try a certified Bern. I ended up with a Bern Brentwood (link: bern brentwood) which was pretty much the only thing I found that I can ride around in all day without it really bugging me. It's light and has pretty big vents so it stays cooler, I think, than the other's I'd tried - particularly the s-one. I do have kinda a pumpkin head though
I don't know about profile, but I don't think it looks that big, but then again I really don't care what other people think I look like.
FWIW - That particular model it's ASTM 2040, CPSC, and EN1078 certified. Quite good for biking or skate, and I might use it for snowboarding.

Re: helmet help?
From reading the OP's text, I'm thinking that the real issue might be that the helmet seems bulky because it's heavy and doesn't ventilate well. Of course, you've got to size it right so they don't slop around (and therefore won't help you in a crash). Most skate helmets have teh suck ventilation, though.
One thing you could look at is an MTB-helmet that you can find in some skatey look. Those are designed to take a hit, but to ventilate well during exertion and with air movement. They breath and feel WAY lighter than a traditional-looking skate helmet (and protect just as well). In fact, they are much lighter. The thing to remember with bike helmets is that they don't have the thick, plastic shell on them, so you need to treat them nice and to replace them after a significant hit.
Relax, Don't Worry, Ride Your Longboard.

I got mine for a bit less, I think around $65, plus I had an REI dividend, so it seemed less expensive.
Even so, you only buy one helmet per major impact. For me the comfort (and the fact that I'd wear a comfortable hemlet) was more worth it than say dumping that extra $20-30 on fancy bearings or something else that doesn't really matter.

Re: helmet help?
I'm looking at an s-one helmet a TSG myself, since they've got them on tailtap and I'm also looking for some 187s.
BUT THEN I SAW THOSE RUBY HELMETS. I WANT ONE SO BAD.
Too bad they're all over 700 dollars. I think I'll just stick with TSG.
