    Default Bell Bellistic Faceshield Advice

Hey, I know people have made faceshields in the past, but I need some advice.

What material would you suggest I use for this?
Would it compromise the structural integrity of the helmet too much to drill a new hole to attach the shield to?

    Thanks.

Polycarbonate or lexan. Get it at around .035 thickness I believe.

Used to make them all the time, got tired of it, and just went to home depot and bought one for $10 (one of those pre made drop helmets)

I wouldn't recommend drilling holes into a helmet because that would probably cause a place for it to crack if you smack your head. It's pretty easy to use existing holes and velcro to have a pretty tight sealed helmet.

Thanks. I'm going to do that tomorrow. I'm going to make it a little project to make a pivot visor that fits like a glove on the Bellistic. Should be fun and interesting.

Well its already gonna fit so you can just cut it down, drill dome holes(I used a dremel) and use the existing holes and screws

What do you mean you went to home depot and bought one?
Because we ride hard and fast, slow and curvy. Through the crowds and cars, laughing as the auto-drones are clogged in the grid listening to cackling talk show radio dj's. We ride boards for the experience, the stoke, the idea that freedom is found in our surroundings, our back yards and streets.

this is what i did for my bell bellistic

if you have a looooot of time. if you are crafty, if you dont mind using cheap ass materials then you could go the route i did.
i suggest the one piece lexan route, its probably better, the lens will be clearer, and just better lol.

    and spray painted black

the rim is made from 2 layers of poster board glued together and then the lens is just a 2 liter bottle.

If only some one would post up a shield pattern/template pdf. That way we lazy people could just print it out and cut it out.

sorry its taken me so long to reply. i was working on a bell bellistic lens template to upload but then i got frustrated because it took longer than i wanted. ( i didnt finish it but if people REALLY want me to ill consider it )
anyways, its 2 layers of poster board glued together. the hard part is cutting it out in the correct shape.
then i made a lens from a 2 liter bottle and taped it to the inside of the poster board rim.

    posterboard
    scotch tape
    elmers glue
    2 liter bottle
and a couple coats of black spray paint

    dirt cheap
its probably just way easier to go buy a piece of lexan or polycarbonate and make a solid one piece lens that way.

1- Cut out two rims from really thick paper, i used poster board. the thicker it is, the better it can hold its shape.

2- Cut out your second rim if you haven't already, you need two or the shape wont hold.

3- Start curving them so that they fit the helmet, dont crease or bend them, just get a nice curve the flows with the helmet.

4- When both are curved you can glue them together. ( I just used some ordinary Elmer's Glue) If you glue it while they are flat, they will want to stay flat, if you curve them and then glue them, they will stay curved.
While the glue was still drying i put mine on my helmet and used some rubberbands to hold it down. This helped get the shape even better.
When it dries it should fit well and hold its shape very well
