Personally, I think cutting board sucks compared to corian (especially when you consider that corian is free)
Here's how I do it:
1. Get some gloves, some velcro, some duct tape, and a bunch of corian
2. Wrap duct tape around the gloves in places where you are going to put pucks (best to do this with the glove ON your hand so you don't wrap it too tight)
3. Stick the fuzzy side of the velcro on the duct tape. The velcro's adhesive backing won't stick to leather, but it sticks very well to duct tape EXCEPT in sub-freezing temperatures
4. Stick the non-fuzzy side of the velcro on your pucks and put arrange them on the glove. I do 4 palm pucks in a square (before I got BV for my palms anyway), 2 finger pucks (ninja turtle style), and 1 thumb puck

Maybe I'll go out to home depot and lowes and grab some corian tomorrow and test them out. My friend's mom was throwing out an old cutting board so I just snagged it before it got to the trash. It's been doing me fine for a while.

Cutting board works. Corian works too. Cutting board doesn't last long, but I mean the point of slide gloves is to protect your hands from road rash. Cutting board works... it's not the best, but I've had no complaints with it.

I agree. Unless you're doing TONS of hands-down slides, cutting board will last a while. Rotating the pucks make it last even longer. I've never had a problem with cutting board. My Corian actually wore quicker because they had a smaller contact patch, which put more pressure on them and, well, you get it.

Cutting board slows you down. There is far too much friction. In a tight race it could make the difference between winning and losing. If you want to pound through the corner faster or want your slides to last longer then use real pucks. The people manufacturing them know what they're doing and they cost next to nothing. What's the point in spending 100's of dollars on high end equipment to limit yourself because of something as simple as a 12$ set of pucks......

That's a very legitimate argument, but one that isn't relevant to most of us here. I don't do a whole lot of racing. When I do, the turns aren't tight enough for me to need to predrift. And for sliding, hands down is lame. I say prolong your puck life by keeping those hands off the ground! Do a stand up! :D

A highly speculative and debatable theory.

hey guys, thanks for ll the advice and consult. I ended up making the gloves as follows;
(im in australia, so dollars are AUD)
i got
$10 leather gloves with breathable backs from hardware store/home depot
$12, 1m x 25mm velcro strip from hardware store/home dept
$8 plastic cutting board from $2 shop
i glued the velcro on bothe parts with the glue that already came o the velcro, its crazy strong, couldnt get it off my fingers properly! But if that fails, i also ough "vise" polyurethane glue, which is the equivalent here in AUS of gorilla glue for $6. I like what i did coz i can rotate the pucks around.
total $36 AUD, $31.59 USD
I wouldve put a picture, but silverfish asks me to put in a url, but my pic aint on the net. If anyone knows how, tell me, and ill upload it.
Now all i have to do is actually learn how to slide.
Thanks for all the advice guys, and thanks silverfish.

PS: how long will my soft grippy wheels last?
upload the pics to your computer, click the little attach paperclip thing, browse thru your pics find it click it, then click upload... once that is done close that window, then click the paperclip again, and your pic should be there, click it and it comes up as a thumbnail..
about your wheels, depends how much u slide, at first i loved it, everyday for weeks, made them uber tiny, like 55mm is the biggest wheel and 45mm is the smallest wheel, so ya remember to rotate them and they will last a little longer, good thing im getting the new classic retro freerides, but i gotta wait till christmas... haha nothin comes free... cept your mom!!! oh... but ya have fun sliding

so you could have bought 10$ gloves and 12$ manufactured pucks, peeled off the velcro backing, stuck them on, and went out to ride. You would have had quality plastic pucks and would have saved yourself a ton of time and effort that you could have spent learning to ride/slide. Making your own gloves/pucks makes no sense in this day and age.........just my opinion for what that's worth (at least as much as glue, plastic, and the time to cut and attach it)

I'm sure the 30 minutes he spent making the gloves didn't take away too much from his ride time. Plus, making your own stuff is way more fun than buying it. By your logic, all those people that are making their own boards are just wasting time making boards instead of buying one that's already made.

Doesn't take that long to make gloves and for all you know the weather sucked that day, or he just wasn't in the mood to be out riding so he passed his time by making himself some gloves? I agree that manufactured pucks are much better, but a giant cutting board can be found for four dollars, and replaced when need be for free.
Making gloves is fun, but after a while I got really sick of replacing my pucks out so quickly and my girlfriend ended up buying me some Loaded gloves off muirskate

absolutely not because the cost saving in making your own board is extreme but given the example he gave he spent more money than had he ordered a set of pucks and stuck them to his own gloves............and if you think making gloves is "fun" then more power to you but I think banging hills is far more fun.
and I'd love to see the person who can go from raw materials to riding down the street in new slide gloves in 30 minutes......and put their hand down and not have the pucks fall off.........certainly not using Gorilla Glue (or similar product) or Shoo Goo

I can get a pair done using my method in about 10 mins, for about $10, but where can I buy some of these $22 brand name slide gloves you mentioned earlier?
It makes no sense to buy manufactured slide gloves, just get a $15 box of velcro (which is enough for at least 10 pairs of gloves), $8 gloves, and free corian. Faster pucks are nice but corian is plenty fast enough for 1080 pressure spins and doesn't feel like it's dragging your arm back in laybacks like cutting board does. And you don't have cut corian or melt it with a blowtorch, and it's already beveled.

In this economy, one needs to learn to be frugal. One must also learn to think outside the box.
I personally wouldn't buy a cutting board. I'd use an old one. Same with the gloves.
Just because you lack ingenuity doesn't mean you have to convince others creativity isn't the way to go.
If no one created or invented their own things, where would you be? Striking rocks together trying to cook a cat. That's where.
