I can get a pair done using my method in about 10 mins, for about $10, but where can I buy some of these $22 brand name slide gloves you mentioned earlier?
It makes no sense to buy manufactured slide gloves, just get a $15 box of velcro (which is enough for at least 10 pairs of gloves), $8 gloves, and free corian. Faster pucks are nice but corian is plenty fast enough for 1080 pressure spins and doesn't feel like it's dragging your arm back in laybacks like cutting board does. And you don't have cut corian or melt it with a blowtorch, and it's already beveled.
do they have to be beveled? the first set of corian i got was, but this new set has pointy corners, is that bad?

If the edge of the corian is beveled it helps to keep it from catching on stuff. Having your pucks catch on something and stop while you're sliding really really sucks because it's painful and could potentially dislocate your arm. But if your pucks are attached with velcro then they will usually come off when they snag on something which is a good thing because it keeps them from jerking your arm back.

I never thought about that. Kudos. That's called innovation.

i went out for my first slides today (ever) and im now expecting a steep learning curve. But i look forwARD to improving. I already grazed my elbow and knee against the ground. LOL. it burns right now. But o well. A small price for a great hobby (longboarding)
btw; i could only afford enough velcro for one pair of gloves. You guys are lucky if u can buy such a qnty of velcro for so cheap. For prices like that id make everything with velcro! Id be the only one with velcro shoes to walk on the roof with

I collect mine off of things like: old ankle weights, camping gear, laptop bags, or what ever.

You can buy a box of like a few feet that's like 4 inches wide for around 10 bones at walmart. It's good stuff.
I did this for two pairs of gloves, today.
I made a pair for myself, and a pair for my friend. Everything was bought at home depot.
1) Gloves - $6, cheap and good gloves.
2) Industrial Velcro - $8, Enough for 3 sets of gloves, so its more like $3 per pair of gloves
3) Corian - 2 finger pucks, 1 palm, per gloves = FREE =)
My friends pair was a little more expensive due to the gloves.
1) Gloves - $20
2) Industrial Velcro - $3
3) Same corian - free
The cheap gloves work great. They are completely perfect for gloves, IMO. Of course I'd rather have the $20, they aren't worth the extra bucks.
This means, i can get a pair of great sliding gloves for $9. I honestly don't understand why you need to buy sliding gloves. Ya, if i was a pro longboarder i would buy some, but i think spending $50 on loaded slide gloves is a stupid waste of money.

If you were a pro, companies would give them to you! HAHA How great that would be...
And you can buy an excellent set of gloves for $10 at walmart that look to be the same as the Landyachtz gloves, minus the finger reinforcement. That's what I use, and they're wonderful. Light, tight, durable, and the velcro sticks to them really well (after you cut off the suede padding on the palm, which takes 5 seconds with a razor blade).
Here they are.
I cut the wrist guard off because it would get caught under the puck.

Ya, that's my goal in life is to get good enough at longboarding that i don't have to buy my stuff anymore =D
As for gloves, Home Depot has a huge selection ranging from like $4 to $25. Plenty of the gloves work great. The ones i got are nice and cheap, but if i had a few more bucks i might have gone for the $12. But for 9 dollar slide gloves, you can't beat it.

In this economy, one needs to learn to be frugal. One must also learn to think outside the box.
I personally wouldn't buy a cutting board. I'd use an old one. Same with the gloves.
Just because you lack ingenuity doesn't mean you have to convince others creativity isn't the way to go.
If no one created or invented their own things, where would you be? Striking rocks together trying to cook a cat. That's where.
Ingenuity? I was building backyard ramps before you were a cumspot on mommys leg.......don't even get me started.......especially on the lack of math skills you are all exhibiting. If you want to make your own gloves feel free but there isn't an example here that anyone has given that comes out cheaper than a 12$ set of good pucks stuck on whatever gloves you choose (I stand corrected Viebster did it, if you consider his time worth nothing)............and I'd be delighted to sell you those pucks.....

Instead of insulting my mother, why don't you contribute something positive to this thread? You need to watch your language. There are children that view materials on this website. You are being a lousy role-model.
Remember, you were the one that said:

Making your own gloves/pucks makes no sense in this day and age
That doesn't sound positive in a thread with "How to make" in the title.

I lol'd. Our math was correct actually. Corian = free. Cutting board = free if you use one from home. $12 slide pucks = 12 dollars. Free is cheaper than twelve dollars I'm pretty sure. Correct me if I'm wrong? . Here's your example.
10 dollar gloves, free corian, velcro. Total is about 18 bucks.
10 dollar gloves, slide pucks, velcro. Total is roughly 30 bucks.
Math.
Anyway, grats on all the slide gloves made from home! Good to see people being creative and saving a few bucks.

What about shipping? cause those $12 pucks are looking more like $18
and it took me a total of....... 1 hour to make 2 sets of gloves. (i actually work pretty slow)
i've spent that same amount of time on silverfish tonight.

I forgot about shipping in my previous post .
Put the price of those slide gloves made with actual pucks about 35+.

Home Depot in the tile/flooring section which is next to the kitchen/bathroom section. Ask for corain samples, or tell them you need a few different samples because you're redesigining your kitchen and they'll open the drawer and let you dig through taking as much as ya need.

ill try and throw up picture tomorrow of how the gloves came out.
Great! I'd like to check them out.
I'm going all-out on my next gloves. I'm going to make knuckle shields out of on old tire, which I'm going to also use to re-tread my sneakers.
I have been searching for gloves for a while. I haven't found any I like or that fit just right. I need to reinforce the materials around the cuff and the thumb. I will use on old pair of jeans for those area, probably just epoxy 3 or 4 layers on the spots where I need them.
I got some seat belt straps I will use as a wrist guard.
Anyone got a carbine blade I could borrow to cut some corian?

It worked pretty well for me. Me being on 16, it sure didn't look like i was redesigning my kitchen, lol. So first the guy showed me the little paper strips of all the colors. So i then said i was working on a school project in which i needed corian, so he then let me take a bunch, as long as there was a duplicate of what i needed.
I got enough for 2 sets of gloves, which an extra set of palm pucks.

Now all that craziness is something I'll have to see a photo of. I started making some gloves like that. I used thick pieces of my old flannel shirt around the thumb, and lower parts of the fingers. Was working a way to reinforce the knuckles as well as making small cut outs by them so they'd be very breathable. Girlfriend ended up buying me loaded gloves as I said earlier so this project is now geared from my brothers gloves.
I've got a carbide blade.
