I got enough for 2 sets of gloves, which an extra set of palm pucks.
I raid the tackle box they keep them in. The dude at one Home Depot ran out, so I he ended up giving me a 4x8 sample. I need a carbine blade to cut it. I'm trying to spend zero monies on my gloves because I'm frugal like that.

The pucks aren't terrible, but not the best either. I don't race so it's not like I need something that will make that split decision on my speed. They don't feel choppy when I put my hand down against shitty roads, and haven't worn too bad. I got rid of the finger puck and modded the gloves a little. They work very well. Once again though, it wasn't my purchase so I'm still 50$ rich. I'm sorry lying to a home depot employee is against your morals, you're a good man. Want a cookie?

I've never understood the need for knuckle guards. I'm assuming it's for the lowest, biggest knuckles (the ones used for punching). I have never damaged my gloves there. That's not to say it doesn't happen, I just don't know how it does. Also, if you're doing it just for the fun of it, right on.
Anyone have a good way to reinforce the fingertips without losing much mobility or adding too much weight? As you can tell from the picture of my gloves, I don't like using finger pucks, so they fingers tend to get holes in them.

I took a nasty spill a few years ago and tore up my knuckles pretty well. It will be fun too. I'm not worried about weight. 5x1in of tire tread won't be that much.
I stumbled on this last night.

How old are you again? Just give me neg rep and refrain from using foul language dude. Simple as that. Like I said, kids are on this forum. You don't have to insult folks with crude low-blows about when they were conceived... That's just immature.
I might no be good at math, but I know this is true: $0 < $12

Re: Sliding Gloves. How to make
Wow, i see my seemingly innocent thread has adopted some heated discussions.
In my opinion, regardless of a $12 difference, i'd still make the pucks myself out of my own purchased materials merely because of the fun, maybe even aesthetic values of personally made things. I like the fact that my gloves now have pucks made from a crappy chopping board. Its personalized and convenient. Then again i don't disagree with buying proper pucks either, but one might as well make them seeing as you would've pretty much made the rest of the glove anyway, right?

Re: Sliding Gloves. How to make
here's mine, 98% Teflon Pucks... longest lasting ever... 148 dollars for a 12'x12' inch sheet 1/2'' thick.
I aquired mine from work.
I have a bunch of skateboards
Isn't this what you're supposed to put in a signature?

you would be surprised how often your body does something unexpected when you fall like that. i fell sideway and got my knuckles dragged under my body while it slowed down, so it one of those things at you rarely need but when you don't have it you go "oh ####" those would have been nice right about now. got some dope scars though

Re: Sliding Gloves. How to make
subscribed. gonna make myself a pair of gloves on the weekend.
dkeller33, i havent been on silverfish very long but i feel that your being very over the top. i'm only 14 and i don't think that insulting peoples mothers is a very good way of making a point. if you have ever made a board you will know that it can mean alot. it feels good to know that your riding something that you made and that you can trust your workmanship.

Re: Sliding Gloves. How to make
Ok dkeller if you didn't insult someones mother then what did you do. You used words that may have insulted someone and instead of saying ' before you were born', you had to use language that definately effends some people. Think of others not urself. And what you said about there being no point to making gloves, there is again think of others. Not all people have access to the cheap gloves or pucks you have found, and I know that the only gloves and pucks I can find are the $70+ ones that I can't afford, neither can some others.

Re: Sliding Gloves. How to make
This debate goes on EVERY SINGLE TIME in a slide puck thread. However, it really doesn't have to.
Listen, people are always going to have their own opinions about this topic, or any topic for that matter.
Here's the bottom line:
1. Using cutting board and corian really does NOT save you money. If you truly believe using 'free' corian and cheap cutting board will save you money, it won't. Think of all the smaller things that come with purchasing or stealing corian or cutting board. Velcro costs money. Heating cutting board onto your gloves takes time. Time really does equal money. Of course you can buy a fatty sheet of whatever the hell you want on your own, but are you seriously going to go through that whole sheet alone? No. You are wasting money, unless you're down to make pucks for your friends.
2. If you don't agree with #1, listen here. It's obvious we can make slide gloves or pucks on our own. But, can't you make any longboard accessory on your own? Depending on your skill, your knowledge, and the tools you have provided..you can pretty much mimic any longboard item on the market. This isn't my point though. The point is, not everyone has these materials or tools. And even if you do, not everyone is going to spend this unnecessary time making these products, unless you're a business or you're in it to become a business, or if you're just stoked as balls and like making things for yourself and for others for free; that's on you.
3. Going back to #2, a person with the appropriate tools and materials can start making their own wheels. Anyone can make their own decks. Anyone can make their own pucks. But in longboarding, we support the people who have perfected the construction of these accessories. We buy from ABEC 11, Loaded, Legendary, ETC because we SUPPORT them as a company and we RESPECT what they do and how well they do it.
So, to pretty much end this repetitive and stupid debate.
Ok, make your own pucks. It's great, and a lot of people who just start longboarding do this. However, you're really not saving money and you're not supporting the people who work their asses to get good products for you, products that they believe can help mend the community together.
If you support buying pucks and gloves, good. You're helping the longboarding community out greatly, and even though you can make your own you know that buying helps people out and spreads the stoke.
No one's wrong in this and no ones right. Do what you want, read above. Stay happy. Stay stoked.
Ivan
