But on a serious note, the Ian Tilmann Foundation can provide a helmet. Wal-mart has cheap pads.

    alright.
    it just looks kinda sketchy
but hey, the helmets usually $139, and this is for $70 not counting the "santa" discount.

ok. i feel like a dumbass now, cause i didn't see the 08
but wait, so you're saying that the 08 bell drops aren't safe at all?
i'm having a hard time figuring out if they have an 08 or 09 version, or if they just released the bell drop in 08, and havent made any changes since?
    sorry bout the noob confusion

The street, however it seems like the shape of the street pads would interfere with a tuck

Don't get the half finger slide gloves. I have the exact same pair from Gravity that I got a few years ago when I first started. Within a week of using them I didn't have any fingerprints on most of my fingers. Not fun.
Definitely just make your own. I had a buddy do it for me, all he did was melt some high-density plastic to my work gloves. They've held up pretty well for the last year.

I just purchased TWO (my brother and myself) pairs of Fox Axis Knee and elbow pads/guards for $30 including shipping. Coming in at under $5 a pair for knees and $7 a pair for elbows, I'd say these things are the cheapest out there, although I've heard the "hot deals" on Cambria Bicycle Outfitter - We Outfit the world in bicycles, bicycle parts, frame, fork, wheel, build kit, shoes, accessories and more are a scam.. I hope not.

I'll update when these come in, probably next week.

    Slide Gloves:
Buy cheap work gloves from your local hardware store ($5 max)
Buy a plastic cutting board from you're local department store/wal-mart/dollar store ($10 max).
-cut the board into palm sized squares
-torch one side of the squares with some kind of butane/hobby torch until its a bit melted
-press it onto the gloves (mark where you want them with a marker first)

    Leather Jacket:
Hit up your local thrift store! I got my first one for like $7.

    hope this helps
