Strong, light full face helmet
I'm looking for a light, preferably DOT approved, full face helmet. I'd like to keep it under $250, but could probably go to $300 (Christmas is coming after all). My friend has a Drop, but I'd just be worried about taking a spill above 40 and sliding off the road or into the other lane.

I want to give you everything.
Just to see what you would do with it.

Re: Strong, light full face helmet
DOT approved helmets tend to be heavier than DHBMX helmets and becasue of that are worse for your neck in crashes. If you're sliding into the other lane, and there is a car.... It's not going to be good regaurdless of what kind of helmet you're wearing. Helmets like the drop are designed around a rider tackling a course where trees are the main thing his or her head might be hitting in a crash. That said this is a helmet that fit's your criteria:

The visor is removable, it has a face sheild, and seems to come in a bunch of different colors too. Camo was my favorite

Re: Strong, light full face helmet
Bell drop is nice. My neck is still getting used to the tiny bit more weight compared to my charly, but it's a damn good helmet.

Re: Strong, light full face helmet
I'm reconsidering the Drop, it seems to have plenty of vents too which helps a lot here in the summer.

initial estimates were around like 300-350, and they intended on staying in that range. its designed specifically for DH'ing, so thats why the price is higher up.
much safer than the giro models, with the same visibility. can't go wrong.

Get a Drop from jensonusa.com
I just got one. $68! I picked it up at the store, so there was no shipping to boot
EDIT: 661 Comp II is $63, and Giro Remedy is $72 at Jenson. Sweet!

what makes the helmet safer than the Giro Remedy?

Re: Strong, light full face helmet
i would also like to know how its safer than the giro..?
not to rip on your helmets or anything they look sick and super "aero" and with a ready to ride visor you cant really complain but is it still just a prototype at the moment? does it pass the same safety standards as the remedy?

you just trust the helmet company. I usually operate under the assumption that when companies develop a product for a market, it will fulfill the necessary requirements.

look at the number of product recalls every year, there's some really dangerous stuff out there, not in just helmets
anyway

this helmet is only about half a pound heavier than a bell drop (2.3 lbs vs 2.9 lbs)and its DOT certified and its 130$ or so
there's a lot out there, check on mountain biking websites
