    Default Close call

So tonight I was two feet from death via car.

So I'm skating to this hill near my house and there is this blind corner leading to it. I hear an ominous roaring and then all the sudden, this car comes drifting around the corner at about 40-50 mph. I grab my board and jump the #### sideways.

I then recognize the car. It's a kid from my school! I yell "You MOTHER ####ER!!"

The car screeches to a halt and I skate towards it. This kid tells me almost hit me.
No ####. So he tells his friend to hand me a beer. He apologizes, and tells me to drift in a real car.

    He speeds off.

Now I'm sitting at the computer, sipping a tall boy and relaxing.

Talk about a reality check. I was two feet from being just another deer on someone's hood.

Don't take your life for granted, because it can end in an instant.

All I could hope is that you had appropiate protective gears on just in case that situation did go sour. This is like a everyday occurence in NY whether you're on a board, bike, car, or on foot.

    It happens.

They should up the driving age to 21... The first semester of my 10th grade year in high school had 18 deaths, 17 of them caused by car wrecks. That's not including the kids that lived and got mangled up beyond belief... It took one dude 6 months to wake up. I don't pity him. He was a dickhead to me before he got in his wreck.

I know a 16 year old girl that stole her parents car and wrapped it 12 feet high in a tree. They said he was doing 60. Her and her two friends weren't wearing their safety belts. Amazing they lived. I still can't see how someone could twist a car up that high on a tree without going off an embankment...

My friend got in a car crash and nearly killed someone on his 17th birthday, when he had just gotten a car for his birthday. He wasn't driving for more than 6 hours before he hit a lady doing 60+. She sewed him for half a million or more and won. She spent nearly a year in the hospital. He is in debt for life.

If you really knew the amount of drivers that are under the influence of alcohol, you would think twice before getting behind the wheel. I had a guy clip my car with a beer bottle he throw up and out of his sun roof. I think he tried to hit me.

I took 2 defensive driving classes and drivers education. All my friends say I drive like a grandma. I'm a careful driver because I know the dangers of driving.

If you cared to read this much of my ranting, thanks. Here is the last mini-story. I dated a woman that got in a car wreck. I didn't find out she had died for over a month. I just though she found some dude and blew me off. I was face painting crippled children from the burn hospital when I caught that news... She was the only person involved in the wreck. I suspect she was drinking, but I don't know 100%. Here is a kicker, I was going to work and got stuck at a funeral home. I thought I saw her son in the back seat of the first car but I wasn't sure... It didn't dawn on me until I heard the news... When I looked it up, she used was buried through that funeral home on that day. I drank a lot that month.

Driving is no joke. Bad drivers should be shot. No offense to you bad drivers on here... but get off the road if you are putting lives at risk.

According to Freakanomics, if you drive till the age of 65, your odds of dying in a motor vehicle accident are roughly 1 in a 100.

Though it may be 1 in 100, My school had 1,300+ students and if 17 die in a car wreck in a half of a year, something tells you that number might be off.

Dying in a car related accident is the least of my worries... It's the lingering around in a hospital bed waiting to die is what gets me.

I'm with Cann0n. There are a number or negligent drivers in my neighborhood and they are all highschool age. I haven't had any incidents while skating yet but while driving I have. I have no qualms about chasing them down and laying into them. Some of these punks need an ice cold beer upside their heads, not in their stomachs. Just waiting for the first little punk to talk back so I can crack him one. I saw some mobile speed bumps somewhere. I would love to put them on my street at night so they could tare the #### out of their suspension while hauling ass like they are the only person on the road. I am becoming a salty/crusty fukker as I get older.

drivers suck no matter what their age. i get about 6-7 near misses in about 15 miles when i take the motorcycle out. most of those assholes are career age people. the throttle/gas can be your friend.

Yeah, it's not just teens. Blue-hairs have terrible reaction timing. Hell, most of the typical assholes you see on the road rage videos are people in their 20s to 50s.

Though typically, it's the inexperienced drivers that scare me.

It's the younger teens that cut corners and run stop signs in residential neighborhoods that get on my nerves.

might be because of that little sense of 'invincibility' they still have. kind of like why a bunch of us skate except we are more alert rather than texting away.

Yeah. I was riding in the car with a friend of a friend and he hit 70+ in a residential. He blew through a stop sign and tried drifting around the corner. I was in the back seat. I was like, "Dude, un-####ing-cool!" He replies, "Relax, I do this all the time!"

So, long story short, we go to his GFs house and his mom yanked him and my friend out of his car. I got out on my own with no problem... She was flipping her wig. "I told you a million times to slow your ass down through here!" That went on for about 10 minutes. She got on to me just because I was in the car. I was just as pissed as she was.

So, on the way home, I saw a cop in the distance hiding out. I didn't say anything and the dude blew right past the cop. The cop must have been asleep because he didn't see this guy blasting through a 35mph area doing 70+.

Funny conclusion, he totaled his car a few weeks later. Courts took his drivers license away.

Yea know, I was hoping that cop was gonna get him. He totally didn't even see him.
