Re: Wristguard SLide gloves. ^_^
Yeah, I've been looking for something like this also. I'm not an artist, but make my living on the computer, so I can't afford a broken wrist either. If you can't use a mouse or type, not a lot you can get done.
Thanks, man!
Yup, it's been confirmed that at the company I work for, I'm officially known as "That Skateboarder Guy". I think I need a shirt or skateboard with the "That 70's Show" logo replaced by "That Skateboarder Guy".
Want list: Carbon Belly Racer, Jefferson, 2011 Deez Nutz, Spindrift, NL Mutt
Reason I'm not getting anything yet: I have WAY too many boards...

Re: Wristguard SLide gloves. ^_^
i might have to try this too. i fractured my right wrist, what... last april. i never went to the doc. didnt know it was fractured at the time. (didnt hurt that bad+high pain tolerance=not knowing i broke it) well it is still kind of F###ed. i doenst hurt, just feels weird and loose. i cant bring myself to do hands down heelside turns, nor anything with my right hand on the ground for fear of killing it. i am an artist too, so killing my drawing hand would just drive me insane. thanks for bring it up Rod.
hey how is your Dad doing?

Re: Wristguard SLide gloves. ^_^
I needed to protect my wrist(s) because I developed a ganglion cyst in my joint, most likely from sliding and doing pushups. I got to the point where I thought I should give up sliding...
These guards solved all my problems:

Well, it's a totally different approach but I just wanted to let you know that these DaKine guards fit great under (Lush) slide gloves.

Re: Wristguard SLide gloves. ^_^
do you find that you have to get a larger size to fit them in there?
-
Re: Wristguard SLide gloves. ^_^
Not at all.
Sure I have smallish hands and Lush gloves have a pretty large fit, but I'm still using the same gloves I used before with no problem. These wrist guards are thin and fit very tight, that's why I thought to give you a heads up on them.
Only downside, they stink like mad after 5-6 sessions and need to be washed... but oh well... I'd rather stink than not slide.

I spoke with my surgeon regarding the snow boards style under the glove gaurds after my injury.
His feed back is that the wrist injurys in snowboarding are mainly due to over extention of the joint where as skate boarding injuries are more due to impact. He told me that the guards for either sport are designed with that in mind and I should stick with skate specific wrist guards. It is that big piece of plastic that sticks out at the pal of the wrist gaurd that is important.

Re: Wristguard SLide gloves. ^_^
Well you're right, that wrist guard is from a snowboard line. It's got that plastic stringer anyway, it's just that I can't find a pic that shows it (what you're seeing is the dorsal side, can't find a pic of the palm side).
As for the type of injury, what the doc says is true... but I think mainly applies to trick skateboarding, where speeds are low and impact is frequent. In longboard sliding (and, to an extent, DH probably) vertical impact is way less frequent/hard IMHO than sliding and overextension.
Anyway, for my problem (dorsal wrist cyst) what I need is exactly something that prevents overextension, which these guards seem to do well.
If you guys are interested in seeing them better, I can take pics of the guards (w/ and w/out slide gloves) and post them.

Re: Wristguard SLide gloves. ^_^
i broke my wrist snowboarding. thinking about getting these: Winter Gloves Snowboard and Ski Gloves - Level Gloves and then using the guards under slide gloves.
