    Exclamation Help with stupid friend

Recently, I got one of my best friends into longboarding, which so awesome but I've created a monster! He never wear a helmet. When we DH we really don't go very fast maybe 30 at the most but the roads are so sketchy. I've crashed before going mabey 30-35ish and I fell right on my head it definitely saved me from a concussion or something worth and this still won't get it through his thick skull.

So what I want you to do is tell him to wear his helmet
Tell him off... Do whatchyah gotta.

    Hes gunna read it to
    Please and thank you.

you need to hit the ground at 16 MPH to crack your skull open, also consider that you are accelerating as you fall, so probably more like 12-14 mph skating

if you are going 25-30mph and you fall hard on your head without a helmet, you're ####### dead.

falling off of a 12 foot ladder accelerates you to over 16mph and is enough to crack your skull open and kill you.

just buy him a hard foam protec for 20$ and force him to wear it, its a lot easier to wear a helmet if you own one

I remember someone saying on here that if someone doesn't wear a helmet they don't get a ride up the hill. Try that.

He's your friend, even thought you say he's a stubborn retarded douche. I get that, we all have flaws.

So you gotta make a choice. You ether live with it, and when he fractures his skull don't feel sorry for him.

    or

you can anonymously mail/email his mom the literature about helmets and safety, with LOTS of photos. And plead innocence when he asks you about it.
If you guy's aren't hold enough to drive, I'm guessing that means you're still young enough to get an asswhoopin by your mom if she finds out your doing something reckless.

Tell him he is and idiot and I am going to laugh when he crashes. Pros and most longboarding trails require a helmet and for good reasons.

    That's really smart.

But I took his wheels.... Well, they're my wheels but all he has is really crappy lowwww duro wheels and like abec 3 bearings. So hes not gunna be going very fast.
And if that doesn't stop him I think for sure I'm going to test that email thing.

Oh and I showed all these disgusting pictures of crashes and he just shrugged.

Take lots of pictures when he crashes and post them here.

But seriously, my friend refuses to wear a helmet because he is afraid of not looking cool. Since he is as stubborn as a mule, I'll just wait until he crashes and gets road rash everywhere.

I told him I'm buying knee/elbow pads and some sliding gloves, and he was like "Wow, you're so lame. They're wicked uncomfortable."

I figured that I'd rather sweat than bleed.

Don't skate with him. Period. Take whatever you've given him, and get away. If you don't, you will be the one that will be calling the ambulance to come scrape his stupid a** off the pavement-- and how will you feel then? Since he will not listen to reason, he will have to learn the hard way. And remember, if you DON'T die from brain trauma, the burden on family and friends is horrendous, and the person IS NEVER THE SAME as they were before the brain injury. 30mph??? Do you you understand the speed that the brain slams back and forth against the inside of the skull on impact at that speed? You won't want to be there when that happens. If he lives, he will never be the person that you knew before the accident. Please, please believe me. I've been through Traumatic Brain Injury with 2 family members. Step away.

Low duro wheels won't stop you from bombing nor will the abec 3 bearings. I'd suggest supplying him with super high duro wheels that are small. Tell him how they're the lates greatest thing... Something like pool board wheels 55 MM at 101a duros. That'd do 2 things: 1) It'd keep him from going fast due to wheel size. 2) He'd be slippery as hell so what's he going to do? Sliding would be the only option. Tell him that if he can't ride those, he's an idiot and too uncool to ride with...

At any rate, you're probably stuck with the guy doing what he likes and you can't do much about it. If you've begged him, etc., then the best you can do is distance yourself from him because if he bails and winds up a vegetable, then guess who's probably gotta bring him to the hospital. YOU! And his mom will hold you accountable since you two were riding together and that you SHOULD'VE insisted on him wearing a helmet, etc., etc., etc.

Limit your liability and don't skate with the guy. He's a hazard to himself and to you. If he breaks his head, he'll wind up like Chris Tutin down below. Chris used to be an intelligent guy, but now he's trapped inside his body because his brain's jacked up. Dude can't even drink from a cup without a straw because he'll bash his teeth in. He can't eat apples for the same reason. How does that guy wipe his butt?

Once your buddy bashes his brain in, he'll look like like he's mentally disabled. The truth is, a brain injury leaves you either dead, a vegetable, or mentally disabled like good ol' Chris. Chris has tremors and slurred speech. He can't do most activities that a regular person can because he just can't control his body anymore. Skating? Motorcycling? No way! What's your quality of life after the brain injury? It's only a mere fraction of what it used to be.

As far as the argument that a helmet's too expensive, for the promise that you always wear a helmet, you can get a free one from Ian Tillman's mom. Ian died by not wearing a helmet. http://www.theiantilmannfoundation.org/index2.html

The guy sounds like a real hard case, so just disassociate yourself from him. He probably will wind up getting you and whoever you ride with in deep trouble somehow anyway.

EDIT: Sorry if I come off harsh at all, but I can't stand stupidity. Having had my own helmet save my life I can tell you that you don't have to go 16MPH to break your head. I've heard of someone who fell from their bike at 5MPH and either killed himself or had a massive brain injury too. It's just too easy to get hurt and your friend not giving a crap is going to give us all a bad name. As a matter of fact, during the mid 60's there was a ban on skating due to all the injuries and broken bones coming from it. Skating today is safer due to the advancements in equipment and safety gear, but only RECENTLY did California begin opening skate parks. It took 40 years to repeal laws against skating to the point where skate parks could reopen. Idiots bashing their brains in for no reason other than "helmets aren't comfy" will wind up causing laws to be made against skaters to prevent us from becoming a "burden on society". The more bad publicity we get, the harder it is for us all to skate and enjoy. Be responsible, skate responsibly, get away from your friend. Besides, up in WA, you should find a boat load of skaters to ride with. That and Canada is where all the innovation seems to be coming from...
