How many times has a CPSC rated helmet saved your life?

How many times have you smacked your head so hard you broke the foam in the helmet?

feel free to share the stories too. i'm curious how often people really smack their heads hard, and if its safe for me to fall a few more times lol



i have gone through 2 helmets in the past couple years from bad falls.
first helmet broken was a specialized cycling helmet on a mountainboard. i hit soft dirt, and with the foot straps i wasn't able to fall like i would have wanted. the helmet kinda split down the middle hotdog-wise, and i had a gnarly headache for a while.

my second was a Giro Flak, and it held up better after the crash, but cracked over the left ear, and several cracks radiated out toward the middle of the helmet. i was all loopy and disoriented for a minute, and all i heard was my breathing as i stumbled up the hill to my car, but i didn't really have a noticable headache just a little pain in my neck. but it was all drowned out by my Fd up shoulder. its kinda scary landing on your head going over 30 MPH.


so who's lucky enough to have walked away from a bad spill because of the CPSC foam?

I was charging a hill by my buddy's house. I'd already gotten a good bit of speed going and I think what happened was that as I tried to carve off some speed, I started a small heel side drift, but it caught sooner than I expected. I flew backwards down the hill right onto my head. I split my brand new helmet in two places. They were small splits, but splits nonetheless. I was woozy for a little bit and felt like a car hit me for 3 days. I had a headache for a couple of them too.
Made me decide to slow it down a touch and not go so balls to the wall.

Next time, the answer is: FOOTBRAKE EARLIER!!!

shot up a quarter pipe one of my first times at a park and went over the end of the pipe and landed sideways. couldnt hear out of my left ear for like an hour

Twice this last season:

Sixsixone Dirt Lid - Left ear - not fast enough for the gap at a railroad crossing and even though the helmet stopped my head, my face still hit the pave.

Sixsixone Dirt Lid - Back of the head - lost it in a standee.

I'd be dead without my halfshell, never leave home without it.
