187 pads, other wise usually any pads work, Probably only need your knee pads and slide gloves but elbow pads are nice if you find your self rolling alot. lol

make your own gloves, it's the best way to go. Cost all of about $20. use search and you should find TONS of articles about it.

You should always (at least I do) wear knee pads when sliding. and elbow pads when you start out. You will most likely be rolling alot.
I also used like a butt/hip pads when i first started sliding.
Got ones that were just shorts and had a pad for every muscle. I took a couple hard spills without them and had road rash in bad places...
I have even gone back to them after taking a hard hit so I could still slide the next day.

DH a set of leathers is always nice. esp. if you plan on going 45+.
If not, just get knee pads and learn to fall to your knee's and gloves if you fall.

The only pads I've used so far are pro tech. they are alright but can bind up behind the knee when your riding for a few hrs.

I did think about making gloves, but the best way I can see is to use a blow torch, which I don't have and don't think I know anyone that does (although I might ask around a bit). Are there any other ways of attaching the chopping boards? Should I just shop around more for "how to" guides?

Thanks for the advice on the pads, I'll see what I can afford once I've sorted the gloves. If I can't get my dad to spring for the 187's, I might go with TSG all terrain coz I've found a BMX shop with them on sale.

Yea just look for a how to. Seriously there are so many on youtube... It's not even worth me typing how to do it.

And velcro works well to attach. Heads up though; you can get free corian tile samples from home depot, just ask. Personally i like to use corian for the fingers, cutting board (or phat deanz slide pucks) for the palm.

I also need recommendations on brands for elbow pads and knee pad gear.

I already made slide gloves ($5 syn. leather gloves, corian, gorilla glue, velcro) with help of this giant thread http://www.silverfishlongboarding.co...es-thread.html

Think I'm gonna pop down to B&Q to see what I can find in terms of glove making. I've convinced my dad to get the all terrains, which are the cheapest ones from TSG, but hopefully will survive at the low speeds I'l be going for now. Unless I lose control and go very fast, in which case I'm screwed, lol. I'l let you know how they are after I fall off a couple of times...

On my way to the shop to buy stuff for gloves, I fell off. Got wobbles going down a hill that I was trying to carve to keep my speed down. ripped up my left hand, right elbow and right hip. Exactly the same places I already have scars from coming of my BMX a few years back.

    Stings.
