    Default Home made slide gloves

Gloves are from Harbor freight tools $6.99

'pucks' are acutting board from the dollar store

Then velcro from Home Depot and a few rivets for good measure.

Wrist guards fit nicely under them and provide a lot of support.

Is that a question or statement?

I am going to round the edges tomorrow, and that's going to be a bit of work. Bu tthey aren't too hard to make. I made templates with cardstock for the thumb and palm areas then cut the board out with a jigsaw. Took about an hour total.

Just an fyi, cutting industrial strength self adhesive velcro is a b*tch to do with scissors, and nearly impossible with an exacto knife. I found it easier to cut with the backing still on.

Did you attempt to cut through both the hook and loop sides while they were stuck together? I cut them seperate(yes the backing to cover the adhesive is still on when I do this) with regular scissors no problem.

step 1: look where your pants have been worn/getting extra dirty
step 2: apply one side of adhesive velcro to pants, the other side to select slide material
step 3: stick slide object to pants

Alternative: Buy scrap leather and gorilla glue it on.

The stuff I have would have been just fine to cut if it wasn't self adhesive. (Yes, I cut the pieces separate)

As to the above, how about try to not slide on your ass, but instead on the skateboard wheels and slide gloves.

I sew the velcro to the gloves with floss. Because the thought of a rivet ripping into my palm didn't please me :P

and if/when your scissors get gummed up just clean them off with a little rubbing alcohol. It'll make em good as new.

    This is another awesome idea.

The cheap floss isn't good, but the more expensive floss is braided nylon thread. It flexes a little, but it's actually very stiff.

My rivets are smooth on the back, but the corners could still peel up. Sewing may be the way to go.

Indeed sir. Though it was pretty much common sense, I was more just commenting on how this is probably the 18th slide glove thread I've checked out. I'm thinking suede is probably the best way to go on this one.

I've found that it's better to place the hook side of the velcro on the glove. It's not quite as malleable but after having my gloves for 6 months the soft fuzzy stuff was worn out. So my pucks always fall off.

I've changed it so that the hook side is on the glove and the fuzzy side is on the puck. I change pucks every few months so I've always got a some fresh fuzzy velcro on them.

you can never have too many slide glove threads.

Suede works well, but I prefer thicker leather materials. I even add leather to leather gloves in some places.

Whats with all the velcro problems ppl seem to be having? I've had the same set for over a year before and had no problems. A Buddy of mine had his for a little over 2 years, the glove itself is now disintegrating, but the velcro on the palms is still just fine.(loop side aka"fuzzy" on palm)

Speaking stickly about the OPs gloves. Clean looking! I like the gloves you used a lot!

But, you made your thumb immobile by basically creating a plastic "splint". I would cut that thing shorter, you only need tip of your thumb covered, like from the first joint up.

Also, the palm puck does not need to wrap around the top like that. A 3x3 square of plastic is all you need. Most sliding is done on the heel of your palm, not the top. Only telling you this because it will make cutting future pucks for your self easier.

    Sweet gloves though, have fun!

I've realized all this after wearing the glover around and critically looking at how the glove touches the ground. The thumb puck is not attached with Velcro at the base, and is actually quite mobile given the amount of plastic on the glove. On my next set I want to put a little more material at the base of the palm and a little less above the thumb. I also want to try ceramic tiles.! Those should last forever.

The gloves themselves are incredibly nice, Harbor Freight tools has a BUNCH of incredibly nice and rediculously inexpensive gloves.

I think tiles of most kinds shatter pretty easily, I mean you drop them when installing them and they crack, so stick to Corian if you're going to check out the kitchen/bath section :P

Plain cotton thread is used in jean and leather stitching. Once shrunk properly (cold water) it is extremely tough. Very stiff and abrasion resistant.

Another thought would be to use braided Spectra fishing line, Aramid thread, and even Dacron. I know my local college has a bunch of all three, as well as a nylon fiber extruder. They can make pretty much any nylon thread you can think of.

The hard thing to find is a machine capable of stitching through leather and working with these threads that don't stretch.

what about using metal?... it will slide and should last a decent amount of time depending on the thickness... but you might have to use an adhesive to make sure the velcro backing sticks to the metal.

I would think most metals wouldn't be dense enough or hard enough. At least, metals you could get for cheaper than slide pucks.
