SixSixOne Back Guard
what do you guys think of it? Looks like it could be good in a crash without restriction for hands down stuff.

Re: SixSixOne Back Guard
Motorcycle jackets have that sometimes incorporated. It's a smart thing to use if the run is on the side of a mountain with small sharp turns. I wonder how heavy it is.

That's definitely the intent.
the one guy I met with one said it was cause he took a board to the spine once after going down. Which is just another bonus.

Re: SixSixOne Back Guard
I have one of these, got it when that code was posted. it's nice and comfortable... I only wear it occasionally, but when I'm feeling gnar it's nice to know that I probably won't cripple myself.

Re: SixSixOne Back Guard
I have one on the outside of my leathers. Don't even know it's there. I would wear it underneath but my leathers are too tight.
To be honest though this is better. Scrub Chest Protector (Full Body Armour)
Takes less time to put on than two elbow pads and has taken two years worth of falls and is only just starting to look tatty. I don't like wearing leathers coz they are too hot and restrictive, and I rarely do over 45mph these days coz the roads here are getting to bloody busy, so if you can get your hands down in a fall and slide on your gloves, wearing one of these is gonna save you from light impact damage. The back protector is almost as padded as the sixsixone. I think it's meant for BMX type stuff. Paired with the Scrub padded shorts under a pair of jeans is all you need.

yeah but to be honest I'd feel like a chump in one of those. rodgon wears the 661 version of that to races and I'm not a fan of the "supersuit" look.

Watch 'Iron Man' that'll soon change your point of view, ha ha............
I know what you mean, I felt the same way, very self conscious, till I saw photos, and it just looked cool especially when it lost its new look after a few spills.

Re: SixSixOne Back Guard
I've seen some nasty crashes/slides and any thing is better than nothing. If you have access to really long DH runs and speeds over 35 it's probably not a bad idea. Safety gear helps reduce the risk of injury, but does not gaurantee you will not get injured.

Not as quick as leathers, but once my jeans hit the road that slows me down.

Re: SixSixOne Back Guard
Do yourself a favour and wear leathers. I've just spent two days in hospital having had an operation following a 30mph crash, that if I was wearing leathers would have been no more than a couple of bruises.
I was wearing the scrub body armour, but the pad moved. It doesn't fit that well, not snug, so it moves. SO BEWARE.

Re: SixSixOne Back Guard
There's alot of emphasis on protecting your head around here, always wear your helmet and stuff. but i think a majority of ppl here fail to realise that your spine is just as vulnerable as your head, and a injury to it (when slamming into a guard rail, tree or rock) could leave you in a condition just as severe as an injury to the head.
I think its a good idea to have these under your leathers, but unfortunately my leathers are too tight for one to fit inside so i don't currently wear one, but if i ever get a custom fitted suit i'd make sure to accommodate space for one. It doesnt limit mobility at all in tucking of anything if your suit can accommodate it.

To this post here you have changed your mind?
My previous point exactly. Wearing safety gear will limit your chanches of injury, but does not gurantee you will not get injured. Although the benefits safety gear provides really outweighs the other options, hospital, road rash, infection, broken bones,etc.etc.etc......
