Wrecked Myself
Wouldn't you know it?!?! As soon as I get comfortable I have to do something stupid... I forgot to check my trucks before I chose to luge. I usually hit about 40 mph on this hill. Somewhere around that speed I got wicked wobbles and the board shot out from between my legs as if I had eaten bad mexican food. I finished the hill on my back. No torn clothes no broken bones, but I left skid marks in the shade of flesh. Sorry I just needed to share my little experience. I would love to hear about some other human error related falls.

...true story
well...my injury...not sure exactly what happened. The only thing I have to go on is that the last time I was seen I was skateboarding about a mile away from my house. The only thing we know for sure is that when my parents came home i came out of the hallway soaked in blood from the left side of my head...soaked my clothes all the way to half way down my pants...Mom and Dad said that I kept repeating "what happened to me?"... That was enough to make Mom sick and maker her have to go to the bathroom and puke. Then they rushed me over to the emergency room and I got cleaned up and I got two staples in my skull then stitches to hold the skin togehther... Later my parents found blood stains in my car on the steering wheel and on the skatboard in the form of a hand...where I apparently picked it up after the mishap... So ya...that's my worse...and to this day I have no clue what happened...OH YA...but I am sure a contributing factor to the injury was skating (if indeed I was) with a cast on my left arm up to my shoulder...from a skate accedent about two weeks earlier...(snapped both bones clean through)...but I am proud to say over 3 years accedent free!

Jeez Ike, where's a camera when you need one? That's an amazing story. How did the cast hold up?

that's the funnything...
"how did the cast hold up" you ask...well that's the funny thing. My mom works with our family doctor, and he is the one who put the cast on...anyways, I convinced him to use an entire extra roll of the fiberglass wrap on it...telling him he knew I was going to skateboard with the cast on...and there is no way they were going to totally keep me off it... So I talked him into it...without letting my mom know. So after the concussion I told her....about 5 months afterwards...and she had "words" with the doctor...all in fun I bet...but she wasn't exactly happy about it. But ya...the cast was fine!

Well kinda
I put that my worst skating accident was a break, but the truth is that it was skimboarding. It happened about 8 years ago when I was taking my last run and trying to cut the lip on a little ripple coming in. The board flew from under me and bam! I landed with my lower left arm between the ground and my hip. I looked into the water and saw my arm in a stair shape at the bottem... it freaked me out pretty good.
This is definitely not the end of the world as we know it.

Old days = short board = Went to ollie to grind parking block, caught a wheel and buried a piece of rebar in my shin.
These days = longboard = "The dang hill didn't look that steep!"
It was that steep, and I pulped one elbow, shaved the other, pulled one knee pad down to add some shave to it, and did a cool flame tattoo on the entire right side of my back.
Pretty mellow, now that I hear some of youse guys.

Wasn't me, but a neighborhood kid snapped his wrist pretty good on the Rolls Rolls today. He was new to skating and tried going down a hill that was beyond his skills when I wasn't around... Poor guy. The wheel size and super nice bearings on that board make it super fast.

1974
Adorondack mountains of northern New York State. The roads there are made of red granite pea gravel poured over hot tar. Once they settle down they're not too bad.
I ate sh!t at a speed in the high 30's on my right side. High speed wobs, when I turned my head to ask my friend how fast we were goin. He had a speedo on his bike...
I slamed on my right arm first, then elbow then hip then knee. As I was sliding I felt the pants grind through and I thought... how odd that they would heat up like that first. Then the underwear band went quickly and it was flesh... bits of it flying off like a steak held to a grinding wheel.
As I finally slowed I felt the grindin in a deeper more penetrating way. I rolled over, got up and raised my shirt to see a road rash the size of a hot-dog bun on my hip. It was white and shiny in the middle. A spot the size of a nickel.
I was all f-ed up on skateboarding for a year after that. Wouldn't go anything over 20.

I've broken stuff but I acctualy ripped my knee apart and I was out for a year. Couldn't walk on my leg for 6 months. That ******* sucked. I made a strong recovery I just can't snowboard and do big tricks like ollie off 10 sets anymore.
I get Iller!!!

come out of the bottom of a big hill in Sennen, Cornawall, UK. Crusied along the seafront, the nback toward a car park. Thought id hang 10 a bit. Just as i mgetting it. Slam, too far forward on the trucks and i go down on my face. Right outside a packed pub. Everyone gave it the ol wahayyy. Not much damage. Scarred Knee. Pride mainly
Be excellent to everyone

ok we went down to brands hatch in the uk for the longboard slalom, i'm researching a phd at the mo and worked hard the previous week burning the candle at both ends so maybe 4 hours sleep in three days...i meet the lush guys at midpoint and we drive down to brands...i have full pads and helmet when we arrive and look at the steepy hill that makes up the course...i yawn and just put on my helmet grab a deck and have a smooth carve...its ok but i have fully wedged trucks set loose as hell...i feel a little wobble on the first run but carve it off sub conciously...second run at 20mph more wobble and i freeze as my brain cant quite make the right connections to either carve it off or weight the truck...i step off the deck with a little stupid attempt to run off. i slam badly putting my hands out i hit the tarmac all weight on the left hand my ulna and radius (forearm bones) fracture at the elbow...the jagged ends smash through the elbow bone cartilage and muscle through the back of the arm eight inches out of the skin (so the doc determines) then back in again....the elbow joint looks like a bullet has hit it and is in 70 plus pieces...i now have a plate and eight screws holding the damage together plus a whole leap of pain and a cast that weighs a ton....please..always wear pads and slide gloves dudes.
Everybody\'s worried about stopping terrorism. Well, there\'s a really easy way: stop participating in it.

Stacked of my board last November during a session, got speed wobbles tried to dip for a slide to get it under control but the closer I got to the board the worse they go, opted to try to run it out but it is amazing how you cant go from sationary to 30mph in 2 steps. Managed to get about 4 strides in before my upper body overtook my legs, ended up having to put my hands down, shock loaded through ,my right arm and turned my right shoulder into mush internally. At the time I thought it was broken, but it turned out to just be seriously screwed. I was also picking denin out of my Knee for a few day afterwards. The worst thing was in ER I had to tell them how a 30 year old person managed to hurt his shoulder.
By the way never ever skate a new location that might involve speed the night before a white water canoeing contest (or any other contest for that matter) the night before because if you stuff up you cant compete!
Be alright it\'ll grow back!

manhole cover
Longboarding not too fast about 20mph down a mild hill, getting some sweet carving action, saw this manhole cover I'd been eyeing for a few days, tried to do a mini-ollie over it (found out I couldn't do that on the longboard). Back wheels caught in a 2" hole behind the cover, which is 2" up on that side. Longboard stopped suddenly. I hadn't taken Ai Ki Do yet (still haven't), so I didn't roll with it too good. Bounced several times off the pavement (bad feeling when the head bounces), and, after I could get up, had broken wrist (scaphoid), and elbow, and misc road rash. The physical therapy (read, "torture") afterward was the worst. No pads, unfortunately. I'm doing better on the pads.
And, weekend getaway with the wife (starting that night) was slowed a bit, but the show went on...
The doc in the ER figured it wasn't much use lecturing a 47 year old guy, or telling his mommy, but gave me the lecture anyway - "why don't you play golf" (never unless I'm too wacked to do anything else).

shoulda stayed on the longboard...
july 7th - i was in middletown nj running cones on my Slalom board with some friends and also riding my 48" pintail and TVS powder board around this big macking parking lot at the train station.
last run of the day before i was gonna throw the boards in the car and get back to brooklyn - tight slalom (which i suck at), hit one cone, hit 2 more and one, instead of pinging off to the side like normal, wedged itself under my front truck.
board stopped, steve didn't.
shoulder, meet asphalt.
helmet, meet asphalt
steve, meet emergency room.
broken collarbone - no skate love for 6 weeks. could have been a whole lot worse without pads/helmet. i agree with Longy - pads are good.
when people tell me i am too old (35) to skate - i explain i was racing a 45 year old at the time!
steve
(just happy this will be healed soon and won't ruin his snowboard season)

my accident was from a snowboard incident so it probably isnt half as bad as youse guy's stuff but.. here it is..
this almost pro snowboarder was making fun of my mohawk how i looked my snowboard and everything about me ( a real jerk ) so we started to fight and he challenged me to a hill that was way to big for me and i wasnt nearly skilled enuff( im still not ) anyway while we were going down the hill he pushed me down and i tumble down all ice and snow all the way to the bottom of the mountain (the hill was huge) wen i got down to the bottom i couldnt move my arm but the only thing that was really hurt bad was my wrist it snapped all the way then i looked up at the guy laughing and talking about how he (so whooped my butt at snowboarding the hill) i hated that day. not out of my wrist breaking but out of how i couldnt kick that jerks ass.
