The dangers of a concussion are reduced when wearing a helmet. Don't be a moron.

they definitely stop some. seat belts don't save EVERYONE, but they're definitely better than nothing.

Re: Concussions!
Yeah I've had some experience with them. I remember when I was learning how to do switch slides I cut it short and got launched off my board (no helmet like a idiot) and fell pretty hard. I remember stumbling home and sitting down to have my neighbors ring our doorbell to tell my mom I just took a really hard fall. I had a concussion and a lot of muscle tension in my shoulder. I had to stop boarding for a good 3 weeks and pop some muscle relaxers like everyday. Always wear a helmet.

Re: Concussions!
I'd say after 4 months your looking at minor brain damage. At best you have a major concussion. Before you do anything else go see a Doctor. Now. Don't bother reading the rest of this post. Just go.

You know its not the fall that kills you. It is the sudden deceleration at the end.

Re: Concussions!

i was taking a toeside turn in a race and my back wheels slid off the road and caught some rocks and made me high side. i smacked my head pretty hard and cracked my sixsixone comp ii helmet. i dont even remember the crash (people had to tell me what happened) and barely remember how i got home. my concussion was pretty bad. i was spaced out and sort of brain dead for like a week with headaches and nausea. but the doctor said i was okay and that these symptoms were normal of a bad spill.
funny thing is this happened a week right before my finals for school so i was out of it during that whole week of tests haha.

Re: Concussions!
I got a concussion the other day. Can't longboard for two weeks FML. I went down to do a bert pendy on my new wheels and I forgot how much more grippy they were than my previous ones, because they hadn't been broken in yet. I somehow fell back and hit the back of my head hard against the ground. I can't remember if I blacked out or not. I can't even remember walking back up the hill, but I went to see my doctor and low and behold I had a concussion. It sucks I wanna longboard so bad but I can't. And I WAS wearing a helmet. I'd probly be dead otherwise. Skate safe folks

Yes. Sounds like you have permanent brain damage.

Re: Concussions!
It is normal to have fairly serious headaches and minor to major mental acuity issues for 6 months or more after a concussion.

There is nothing normal about major mental acuity "issues" that last longer than six months my friend.
-
Re: Concussions!
Something to remember as well is that muscle tension could also be the cause of some of these headaches. Otherwise, all other questions regarding this issue should be consulted with a medical professional, not a bunch of goons over the internet.

In the case of a concussion, yes there is. They normally are minor memory related issues like having trouble remembering where you put your keys, or forgetting what you went into another room to do. Having trouble focusing on certain tasks is also fairly common after more severe head trauma. More rarely, logic processing can be impaired, as in you have a difficult time using learned info to make a decision. If said person is having issues such as major memory loss or severe difficulty focusing on simple tasks there is most likely an issue that needs to be addressed ASAP. Regardless, OP needs to get his azz into a doctors office soon if he hasn't yet to get checked out. enemy combatant, I really respect the knowledge you drop around here but I do know a bit about traumas and normal healing processes for them. You can google if you don't believe me that it is not abnormal to have some issues after suffering a concussion. Ever heard a long time boxer or other athlete who has taken many head shots speak? That is the cumulative effect of many head traumas. Just one can make a difference, at least for awhile.
So wear your lids y'all.
I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.

Re: Concussions!
Dude, I've suffered concussions playing football, been knocked out from exploding mines and rocket shells, and was even in a coma for two days after a double skull fracture in a motorcycle accident. Never had headaches six months post trauma though.
I gotta think that symptoms after six months is pretty serious.
