100% of the time, I'm getting a full face even for mailbox runs now.

I was sliding with a friend a couple weeks ago, and he fell awkwardly and smashed four teeth out. He isn't a noob either, he's been skating for years and has tons of skill, it could've happened to anybody

Also, it doesn't matter how fast you are going, the distance between your head and the ground is the same whether you're bombing or cruising. From a physics standpoint, the impact of your head hitting the ground from a 50mph bail and a 2mph bail are identical.
