yes
mostly, yes. One incident where my head was bouncing on the pavement like silly putty was enough to convince me. convince me. convince me. convince me.

Mostly always. If I am going down the shops, nah, bugger it, but if I am doing any runs, or intend to do any runs that will have me either sliding, going fast, or have traffic, then yes. You should wear one though, because helmets save lives. Someone posted a story a few months back now about that.

I wear a helmet sometimes. If it's a new hill, I wear one. If it's a HUGE hill, I wear one. If it's a steep hill, I wear one. If there's traffic, I wear one. If I want to look like I'm proffesional or something, I wear one. If I'm doing common or small hills, I'll skip it, thank you.

I wear a lid in the Skatepark, cause I gotta. On hills I don't usually, but my days of downhill bombin' are long gone! If it's steep enough that I need a helmet, I ain't goin' down. I find that a ski hat offers considerable protection
Funny, I ALWAYS wear a lid on my bike..................

Like most folks here, I wear one most of the time. when I'm just out foolin' around, no. Any considerable speed, yes.
Get a bicycle-rated helmet if you are bombing and carving. The hard foam offers better protection for when you really fly through the air.
A bike helmet should be endorsed by both the CSPC and ANSI.
Screw you guys, I'm goin home!

But bicycle helmets are good only for one crash. Then they're unsafe.

Good point Jax - that's pretty much the case. There's some more info on the Giro site:
http://www.giro.com/usa/gir_faq_3.html
I have to say I wear a bicycle helmet, though - mainly because I'm too cheap to buy two helmets. I haven't gotten aggressive enough (yet) to smack my noggin with any serious force - if I do i guess I'll replace my lid.
my general stance on safety stuff is:
Assuming you're an adult - you are free to make your own choice about whether or not to wear safety gear.
I choose to wear a helmet and pads because when I do:
- It's more likely that I will be able to skate again tomorrow, instead of being in a hospital bed or a casket.
- I am setting a good example for my kids (and maybe the neighbor's kids).
- I won't be a hypocrit when I tell my kids they need to put their gear on before they go out.
Live to skate another day!

I agree...helmets save. I definitely should have had one on when I fractured my eye socket (yeowch!) a few years back. Now, anything more than cruising around campus or town I put the helmet on.
It makes you feel better when you get some extra speed. Plus, its another place to put more stickers 8)

DOT says the same thing about motorcycle helmets.
Any helmet is only designed to take one hard impact. The manufacturers don't expect you to use them. It's a "precaution".
