    Default scar removal

Is there any type of over the counter medicine that will cut down on scars? I think I saw one on TV but I don't remember the name. I have a few from my knee surgeries and some random injury scars from working on my truck and would like to see if I can get them downa little bit. Any clue?

Also, none of the "chicks dig scars" comments please. Actual help is good.

if its an open wound, topical creams like polysporin help but you'll still have a scar. i dont think there is a way to fully prevent a scar.

if the scar is still healing you can get vitamin E capsules and break them open and rub the oil on your scars, apparently is helps them return to normal, and if they are fresh keeping them out of sunlight helps too apparently

deffinately not fresh. these are from childhood days of baseball and the like. 4 knee surgeries later I have a 8 inch scar across my knee, and a smaller 4 inch on my shin, and your random "cut myself on something" scars.

so Maderma is about my only option for OTC stuff. What about actual procedures? Anything a good insurance coverage will help with?

my recent concern, or others as well? Me, because I finally have a little money that I can spend on it. And the fact I hate how they look, not very appealing to me personally, even if the "girls find it bad ass".

And yes, 3 or 4 I believe. I don't even remember. I think 3. First 2 in seventh grade, and 3rd in 8th. Probably won't ever get a full recovery release from the doc, but I do what I can. I am not near as mobile as I used to. Played baseball for 13 seasons when I was younger, from T-ball up, also soccer for about the same.

My femur actually broke and took most of my knee/cartiledge with it. So, it's a scar with a terrible story within it. I would just like it at LEAST less visible.

did some googleing..in addition to creams & such, it looks like theres a laser procedure, as well as possibilities of basically cutting the scar off and re-stitching the area and taking care of it better and/ or making it a smaller area to heal.

ya, i read that as well. it depends on the type I guess. and being they don't spread from the incision area, I may be in luck. We shall see. We have a call in to the dermatologist this week.

I have tried Mederma with very minor success. Takes a very long time to see any results. At
least that was my observation with it. Got tired of trying to make the scar in question smaller.

I think it works on a variation of the cheese grater method. A mild abrasive and some
stuff to support healing. But very very slow. Like trying to get routed edges on a rough plank
    using a jewelers cloth.

But then, I'm talking about a pretty prominent mound of scar tissue too.

As they say, "time heals all wounds." I had reconstructive shoulder surgery in 1991 and of course had a nice big scar. But here we are, 16 years later, and it's hardly noticable at all. Bummer. I wish it was more visible, because, yes, chicks dig scars, ha!

I have noticed it to be a little less visable, but I wanted a quicker solution over waiting it out.

My mom uses this stuff called emu oil. It takes a while to make it go away all together but it helps. I don't know where she found it though.

Keloid scars is what I get. Nothing a doctor does/suggests makes them better.
