Loaded Sliding Gloves - Any good?
I'm thinking of getting some safety gear so I can learn to slide and take bigger hills and stuff.
I saw the Loaded gloves on thelongboardstore.com. Any opinions on these? Durability? Positives or negatives? Better alternatives? I could go for another brand but I'm looking for 4-finger gloves and looks are a requirement (I know, shouldn't be, but I don't want to be going around with huge mitts/work gloves on my hands).
Thanks!

Re: Loaded Sliding Gloves - Any good?
if you're just starting out learning slides, i don't know if the loaded gloves are a good idea
just in one session my friend burned through his thumb, now it's covered in duck tape
'course you eventually learn to lift that thumb up, but i have the timeship bear paws, and those gloves are awesome;
but you did say looks are a requirement, so i'd say go for lush, or even the landyachtz gloves

Hmm, I wasn't aware that Landyachtz had their own gloves, I'll have to check those out, as well as the Lush ones. Thanks!

Make your own. You can make more durable gloves for cheaper.
Just search there lots of instructional threads on making gloves.

Re: Loaded Sliding Gloves - Any good?
theyre good gloves - I hear the NBS pucks slide like butter - but if your just starting out, or wanting to drift (or just get some protection) go for the ol' cutting board/corian velcroed onto a work glove.
You make it yourself (for no other reason than that if you don't like them, your to blame, and only out 10 bucks. If and when you get really into it, get some legit gloves.
Assuming you already have made your own, ignore the previous paragraph (obviously) and try them out. Befriend people in your area with them, or if you do get a loaded glove, you can always put your own puck on the thumb.

Re: Loaded Sliding Gloves - Any good?
I brought the loaded sliding gloves so now I have to do something about the thumb. What a shame they didn't try to make it better for my money...so now I have to modified the glove to put something on the thumb. Such ripoff.

Re: Loaded Sliding Gloves - Any good?
I don't want to go the work glove route, it just doesn't look good to me. I could get some bike gloves and stick some pucks on there myself, but that would end up costing about as much as a legit pair.
So far the Lush ones are looking really good to me, how much do they usually cost? Or more importantly, is there an online store that will ship them to Canada?

Lush pucks can melt. Seriousley. Get a cheap pair of motorcycle gloves if you really want, you can get them for under 30$ on ebay. Than get free corian + velcro.

Re: Loaded Sliding Gloves - Any good?
yeah, i have lush gloves. the stock pucks melt. i have replaced them with corian pucks. lush gloves are EXPENSIVE! the only reason i have them is because i got them for free. it makes more sense to get motorcycle gloves off of ebay, with knuckle protection. velcro some corian on to the palms, and youre good to go.

Re: Loaded Sliding Gloves - Any good?
Gravity fingerless gloves are cheaper then most others and they are just as good. Awesome delrin and leather in the right places to prevent ripping.

They melt? Jeez, you'd think they'd design it to prevent that.
Hmm... what about the Landyachtz ones, any problems? Although after reading this, I guess the DIY way really is the best.

Re: Loaded Sliding Gloves - Any good?
Go to Home Depot and pick up some 5 dollar garden gloves. Then ask them for tile samples and take a whole bunch when they aren't looking. Take them home and glue them to your glove, and now you've save like 40 bucks

....and black dye so your hands are stained!! Figerless gloves are not a great starter glove.
Seriously though, you can make some nice looking gloves with a little time and very little money. i agreee with you about the gardening gloves. They are ghetto and the cuffs usually get in the way and rip. Get some nice all rawhide work gloves ($10), some industrial velco($4), and a slab of cutting board ($5). It'll take all of 30minutes to buy everything you need and maybe 1hour to make em. Sure you can make $8 slide gloves, but they'll look and feel like $8 slide gloves. Spend $20 and make a nice home made pair.

Re: Loaded Sliding Gloves - Any good?
If you really don't wanna diy, motion makes gloves that are little more than rawhide gloves w/ a puck in the palm. worth checking out...
maybe even still velcro something on the fingers/thumb, just to be safe.

Re: Loaded Sliding Gloves - Any good?
The only pair i've ever purchased were lushes, I was happy with them, but ended up changing out the pucks.
since then, I've made my own. I've taken garden gloves and cutting boards over 30mph plenty of times, no worries. now it's time to upgrade to corian, just for the hell of it.

Gravities last super long.
Havent had a problem with them, and they have pucks for your fingers and thumbs unlike some other ones. Best bet IMO.

Re: Loaded Sliding Gloves - Any good?
Did gravity change their glove design? I seem to remember people always complaining about them and now I'm starting to hear good things....

Re: Loaded Sliding Gloves - Any good?
gravity slide gloves are like floppy donkey dicks (in the words of jazlikethat) because they arnt stiff enough. What I did to solve this problem is wrap the exterior in duct tape. It makes the glove stiffer and makes it look "ghetto" but, it helps SO much. The problem with the gravity glove is that the leather is strong, but the foam just disentigrates if it touches the ground going above 20mph. The duct tape makes it alot stronger and stiffer, so once you do that its a good glove
The loaded glove is a fine piece of work, the only problem is the pucks they give you when you get it. They are pretty crappy pucks, they wear down really quick. Get some different pucks (I like the pucks from gravity, just order some and slap those guys on) and your good to go.
I prefer the duct tape version of the gravity glove though

I sense the beginning of another Silverfish "urban legend"...
