Default cheap quality gloves?

Hey guys a fellow beginner here, wanting to know what I should look for in a set of gloves? I was thinking about getting a plastic cutting board from the $.99 store but it's fairly thin. Anyone know of a cheap combination of the two for me?

If you stop by a local Home Depot, you can get those corian plastic samples used for countertops.. they go well for homemade slide gloves. plus, they're free! While you're there too.. you can get a cheap pair of mechanics gloves to slap that corian on. here's mine

I completely agree. I made my slide gloves with free corian samples, 4 dollars worth of INDUSTRIAL STRENGTH (important part) velcro, and 2 dollar gloves. i.e. SIX DOLLAR GLOVES!

It's been about 2 months and they are holding up great, here is a link to how i made them:
Wristrap/Homemade Gloves

Maybe only use 3 pieces instead of four, i can take them on and off with the velcro, but they came out kinda heavy, but those corian samples have almost zero friction and hold up amazingly well to slides.

I wasnt able to find any corain samples at my home improvement stores, an actual counter store would be more likely. I made my gloves with a kitchen cutting board, but a thicker one. The cutting board I got is from wal mart and was 5 or 6 bucks, and was about 2/8 of an inch thick. I too used mechanix brand gloves, the 2 dollar gloves are like general gardening gloves and are one size fits all, which doesnt fit me heh. So the gloves I use are form fitting and work great, been using them for months. Total cost was prolly 25 or 30 bucks (gloves, plastic, velcro) but will make you multiple sets of gloves.

I put these together gloves I got from the tool aisle at Wal Mart ($10) the cutting board and the furniture sliders I had laying around the garage.

I was wondering why you used velcro over melting the corian samples on your gloves? How does the velcro work anyway to hold a corian piece from ripping off the gloves?

you can't melt corian, it's like a stone. the velcro works like any velcro, one side on the glove, one side on the puck, and they stick

I melted some cutting board on my first pair of gloves, which was a sorry attempt lol. It was messy and only part of the plastic was sticking very well to the glove itself. Industrial strength velcro works best. Just glue the fuzzy side of the velco to the palm of the glove (I used gorilla glue), and stick the thorny side of the velco to the puck itself (no glue necassary, the adhesive sticks well to the puck). Velcro is definitly the way to go.

ahhh velcro has a sticky adhesive which I didn't know about. I'll definitely use corian pieces over cutting board. Thanks for the responses.

Yeah, the corian is like stone hard, sliding does almost no damage to the tiles besides discoloring them. Make sure your gloves are something that adhesive would stick too, i.e. not furry (why idk). And yes, when you buy velcro it comes with both sides, eash of which have an adhesive on them.
And I was super cheap, but i would say buying gloves that actually have straps are WELL worth the extra money.

In response to the getting gloves that have a material the velcro adhesive will stick to, just use glue. A strong glue like gorilla glue will stick the velco to any material really, it works very well. Your biggest expense in making gloves is prlly gonna be the gloves them selves. But once again you can go for the 2 dollar gardening type gloves at lowes, although Id recommend getting something more form fitting to your hand.

I think contact cements or similar glues work best for gluing the velcro to the glove. I found a pair of dickies gloves at walmart. They have pretty durable leather on the bottom in black and a grey breatheable top to it with some knuckle protection and a wrist strap. i use either corian or cutting board pucks since i have a huge board of it with like 3 sets worth left.
