Default Teen sentenced in Vancouver for 'skitching' death

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

VANCOUVER -- A teenager who killed his best friend in a skateboarding accident was sentenced in Vancouver to 60 hours of community service.

Clark County Juvenile Court Judge Barbara Johnson told 17-year-old Christian Moothart at Thursday's sentencing he should speak to youth groups to warn other about the danger of letting a skateboarder hang on to a car, a practice dubbed "skitching."

Moothart was driving in August of last year with his friend Joey Madison riding a longboard and holding on to a window. He fell and was run over.

The Columbian reports Moothart was convicted of reckless endangerment.

I'm glad that story didn't get blown out of proportion like most around here too. 60hrs community service is enough punishment. Knowing that he was responsible for his friends death is punishment enough.

Oh, and I don't think a "lol" is really necessary before that sentence. A little respect eh?

I'll only skitch if I can hang onto the back , I don't feel comfortable doing it on the sides.

skitching over 10 miles per hour is so F-ing stupid.

It's only good if it's for getting up hills if you ask me.

60 hours community service? That's it?? He killed his friend by running him over with a car. Sad but that should be a heck of a lot more than 60 hours.

Couldn't find the article. Could we have a link to it?

Fully agree. I think s/he's learned his lesson and suffered plenty. Throwing this kid in jail for a dumb mistake won't bring his friend back to life. It'll just ruin a 17 year old kid's future.

Natural ####### Selection.

1. Dont skitch if you're a wobbler.
2. When you DO skitch hold on to the ####### back fender of the car so when you fall you don't get ####### squished.
3. When you have sex with strangers use a ####### condom.

C'mon people. This is just tragic and totally preventable.

That's hellof messed. The poor kid who passed, that's just awful. No fun, no fun in dying at such a young age.

And I agree with wilder, this/that is not a "lol" situation. Nor should it ever be.
