you know what 2 weeks in the hospital costss? i'll be basically paying for a mansion...that i don't have.
Ddub, you seen to have had a major crash I gather !?
Feel sorry for you guys.Either have to cough up a whole lot of money for insurance or gamble that you don't hurt. Over here (Eurpoe/Scandinavia) we have national health service (we do pay a lot in tax!)
SlyTX: I broke my collar bone in 3 places last May and har a 10cm plate put in with 8 screws. All free at the hospital. Should be coming out soon, again free. Physiotherapy was also free. Anyway having the plate put in really helped as I felt pretty good quicky.
Had to lay low skate wise as the wife was not happy! The problem with the plate is that it is too long and the skin gets sore where the srcewheads are! I realy don want to slam on it either.
Will have to have a break from skating and lifting heavy stuff when the plate comes out as the bone will be perforated with 8 screw holes!

Yeah I'm still recovering from a pretty bad fall straight on my hip bone. Its been about 3 weeks and still pretty painful to sleep on. I think it was just a really bad internal bruise
that's what happened to me last night. I was listening to my headphones and pumping hard down the street and I started sliding. I thought it was cool because I was sliding and pumping at the same time for like 3 pumps, but then I slid too far and high sided backwards, landing straight on my hip.

I just recently (2 hours ago) had a bad spill on a new hill. The beginning of it has been recently paved and is incredible. But halfway down the hill it gets steeper and the new pavement ends. What's left is a steep, horribly paved bumpy holey road with lots of loose debris. Since it was a little wet too I had even less grip on my wheels. Basically I was going a little faster than anticipated and once I hit the crappy road I went all but 20 feet before my board slipped and I kinda rolled a bit on the ground.
The result:
-Two pretty big gashes on my right arm/elbow
-Cut up palms
-Road rash alllllll over the top of my back
-A decently sized gash on my lower right back
-A cut up right hip
-Possibly broken left pinky toe. (the least of all injuries)
Though it hurt a LOT at first, It's already feeling better after everything being cleaned, neosporined, and a few advil popped... I think I'll be back to just cruising tommorrow. Maybe some hills by next week. Definately NEVER that other hill again unless it's ever fully paved......
I ate it on a hill last weekend (the one time I wasn't wearing a helmet) and wound up with 5 stitches in my forehead. It's healed up quick though but it'll probably leave a scar. My entire left arm/shoulder was road rashed pretty bad too, I hate when I get that because showers are painful as hell.
My friend took a phone pic of the forehead gash after it happened but I haven't got it from him yet
I'm still recovering from a bruised heel (probably around a month and a half now, still bruised)
and a jammed big toe on my back foot.. that's about three weeks... I can tuck... it starts to hurt AFTER riding and if I bend it... walking's fine and I ain't letting it stop me from skating.
I don't mind the heel so much but I wish the jam would get better.
I'm a tripod. Kidding... I'm regular so I was talking about my right foot.
Zap! Heal up buddy! Broke my foot last year and it ain't fun, here's hoping you're back on the board in time to rip it up next week!
Ive been taking it easy skating, very light dh and I always sand bag behind the pack because on those big hills, I carve and brake to slow down. After my visit to the ER and dealing with the head ache of what it costs me, I dont think im gonna be taking huge risks before getting insurance. Its just not worth it really. I dont fall very often, but I got a concussion, and a broken shoulder in 4 days, so it can happen anytime. My visit to the hospital was simple, but expensive, a longer more serious trip would cost IMMENSE amounts, like more than ive made in the past 2 years expensive. I love skating and I honostly dont know if there would be anything else Id rather be doing. But youve gotta be intelligent, and responsible about it, like everything else in life. And skating, especially at fast speeds on open roads without insurance, is just not responsible, or intelligent.
