Re: Whoe Else Is Recovering From An Injury.
Not from longboarding..Was on my KTM (dirt-bike) on the slick rock in Moab UT. I was 23 miles from ANYWERE! 6 hours to get me to the local hospital...Doc say it's F'd up and he couldn't do anything. Spent the night and my bud drove me 7 hours back to Santa Fe, NM. Surgery that night...And 5 months before I was off crutches. 1.5 years before I didn't even think about my "bad" leg anymore. 720 degree fracture of the tibia...Snapped my fibula like a twig (more like a pencil that you slowly bend until it breaks).

Damn! That hurts looking at it and makes me think about staying in the safety of my bed and working on clogged arteries and carpal tunnel syndrom in my remote control channel changing thumb.

You'll be back on the board before you know it! Just keep your calcium high (1000mg/day w/Vit D), and don't use any nicotine products. The distal breaks can be a bitch to get right if you push too fast too soon. I know this because of all the time I got to spend in the waiting room of my ortho listening to my other broken brothers and sisters stories.

yeah i'm on my 4th cast, the ortho keeps messing with it cause it's unstable- the little bit on the end keeps wanting to turn in toward the ulna. no pins or surgery though... just lots of painful reductions.

Re: Whoe Else Is Recovering From An Injury.
finaly 8 days after my crash i find out what is really wrong with my shoulder/upper arm.
takes 7 days to get MRI results? damn.
every single muscle in my shoulder and upper arm is swollen and stressed, particularly the ones around the rotator cuff. i also fractured the acromion process on my scapula. i was fearing much worse results, but i'm Fing bummed i cant skate for 7 more weeks. and gotta do physical therapy
they also discovered the lymph nodes inside my arm pit are way way too big; which is strange and concerning because its not something the doctors usually see with trauma like this. its usually a sign of infection or cancer. sometimes other things. so i had like 6 vials of blood taken for testing on all sorts of stuff. now i gotta wait to see if i'm dieing or not.
long as i'm alive i'ma live illegal.

Most likely infection bro. The 'nodes long my jaw line will get enlarged if I have any kind of mouth/tooth/gum infection (I still have my wisdom teeth and wrestle with them all the time). Any type of cystic acne could also cause it too.
Keep us posted.

Trying to figure out where in the time frame it would be safe (or at least not completely idiotic) to start skating...
My right shoulder is jacked. Had a 15mph get-off. No dislocation, and I thought I could shake it off in a few weeks. It's been 3 months now. Might have to get checked. I'm doing my own PT and its sloooowly getting better. Sucks because I have to do toe-side shut-downs. Heel side (right arm down and back) is a no go (unless I want to cry in pain). Can't sleep on it either...<sigh> That's one of the reasons I'm buying a carveboard so I can recover w/o re-injuring every session.

Re: Whoe Else Is Recovering From An Injury.
Yup. Let'er heal. Riding dirt-bikes means I've seen a LOT of clavicles that get...Uh...involunteraly manipulated. A plate and screws are the typical fix.
Sounds like your an expert on shoulder physiology. I'm going to start to get educated too. I'm 'toughing' it out right now because I just know that if I go in and get an MRI I'll be confronted with surgery. A little knowledge goes a long way when your faced with the knife.
I was into bodybuilding during my 30's and one day on bench I blew out my rotator cuff. Typical injury. I nursed it back w/o any outside help w/in three months. No overhead lifts, no horizontal movements, but I could go overhead. I did all the girdle strengthening exercises every work-out. It worked. This injury feels different though. <sigh #2>
Yea the leg was jacked. And yes it hurt about as much as you think it would. First broken bone though and it happened 4 days after my 42nd' B-day.
Let your shoulder heal, get medieval with the PT and then strengthen the heck out of it. You'll be doing left arm pendys before you know it!

I tore my acl in June 2003 doing a halfcab down a gap, landed it but I was still twisting my body when I landed. went to the doctor in dec 03 the doc could push my leg apart... Surgery for torn acl ripped miniscus. I'm still recovering lol it gets stiff sometimes.

Re: Whoe Else Is Recovering From An Injury.
Busted the metatarsal of my right pointer finger yesterday when some guy t boned me as I was driving. Somehow my hand just flew away and crashed into the stereo on impact. First thing he did as I pulled myself one handedly out of the vehicle was notice I looked dazed and tried the plant the idea it was my fault in my head(no way in heck). Spring break started for me yesterday and I was coming home to do a lot of snowboarding. This guy (who expressed no remorse) just ended my spring season before it began, screwed over the rest of my semester, seeing how I'm an art major, and I'm not gonna feel good about getting on my board to commute to class until I have a cast and things knit up a bit at the least. That'll add a good 15 or 20 to the commute... what a train wreck.

Re: Whoe Else Is Recovering From An Injury.
going about 20 mph, down a hill holding a camera, and I was to focused on it, and ( I'm in Pittsburgh, so there's some snow) I started to drift to the left, and my wheels went into the snow, and I went flying. The first thing I remember when falling is ' oh no, I hope the camera doesn't brake..' and I get up and see the camera ABSOLUTELY FINE... so I think 'ok well lets take a look..'
And look down to my left wrist to see 2 lumps appearing on the top of my skin. So one of my friends come down and start to laugh saying I did a face plant , and I'm just like 'haha...ow' I go to the doctors and found out I broke my ulna and radius, and my radius popped out, I have to wear a cast for the norm of 5-6 weeks, got a pin in, next Tuesday I'm getting it out.. bout two weeks to go now..

Re: Whoe Else Is Recovering From An Injury.
Home for spring break and I decided I'd hit up some of my old favorites. Drove up North Mountain a couple hours ago and started heading down the paved section on the road. Drifted around the second corner with a coleman and caught a decent sized rock which sent me flying forward onto my left knee. I was eventually able to get my hands down in front of me and I was wearing slide gloves so that definitely helped a lot but my knee is pretty torn up. Swollen and some road rash.
