Ouch, sorry to hear that.
How long was it between accident and surgery?

8 days....I needed to wait 3-5 days just for the swelling to go down and then another 2 to get an OR...I was on Morphine for nearly a day and though it was very nice being pain free I got way too used to it and then let too much time lapse when I came off the pump and took my first percocet...ice has helped.

Re: Whoe Else Is Recovering From An Injury.
You know I keep seeing this thread and well...reading it. So I thought I would add my minor injury...My wrist, yup I have one of those hurt it May trying to not run over some obnoxious little brat of a girl at the local skating rink. After $1000.00 I was told they thought it wasn't broken. It still hurts every day, and I believe that what I have is a tear. So as soon as I get a new job....and insurance, I will be going back and see what can be done.
Unless the pain goes away before then. BTW anyone know of wrist guards that can go under slide gloves?

damn you got percocet for your ankle? they didnt even want to give me vicodin for my skull. i had to basically beg for a prescription. im glad i got it. abuse nothing, i needed it.
but i was on morphine for 3 days, that was pleasent. i know what you mean by getting used to it. its not like withdrawals, you just forget how much pain you're really in

Re: Whoe Else Is Recovering From An Injury.
My injury didn't happen while longboarding, but it did happen while i was building a board. I was routing a piece of wood on my ghetto router table, when it launched forward. This caused my hand to go straight toward the bit, and my middle finger to make contact. About an half an inch is really chewed up. Funny thing is that it didn't bleed or hurt as much as i thought it would after getting the cut.
After getting back from the ER i inspected the area to see if there was any blood splatter, and noticed a hole in the push paddle i was using. That paddle saved my self from a much worse injury; when the wood kicked out it struck the bit causing it to slow to a stop. While it was still spinning when my finger hit, it was slowed, not allowing my finger to be cut through the bit (if that makes any sense). Also my other hand would have struck the bit.
On a final note, before it happened, I had a feeling that it was kick out. Instead of finding my other safety paddle I went ahead. Always trust your instincts; they are usually right.
On a matter of morbid curiosity, I'll post some pics of carnage after I redress the wound tomorrow.
Hope a speedy recovery to you all.

Re: Whoe Else Is Recovering From An Injury.
yeah I don't mind the pain so much now but it took a day to get to the point where the smallest movement didn't bring me to tears. I've been on Percocet for more than a week now it does the job but I will be transitioning to Tramadol which is non narcotic as soon as I can
Mr Rube...ouch Routers are brutal...my neighbor growing up lost a portion of his ring finger to a router...instantaneous removal he didn't feel a thing

Re: Whoe Else Is Recovering From An Injury.
I dont know if i could deal with a percocet regiment. Its hard enough to function/think on hydrocodone and I know how much stronger percocet is. I had a friend injure and reinjure his ACL in high school and then basically become dependent on percocet... but he wasnt a very strong willed person and like getting f'd up, that probly had more to do with it. You hear the stories, but seeing and dealing with it is something else.
To keep this on topic: In terms of my recovering, i had an awesome day yesterday. I'm in school and missed about 2 straight weeks from the 1st to the 16th, so I've been playing catch-up and stay current at the same time. My Profs are real sympathetic, but the point is im swamped with reading and studying and homeworks. I posted up at a coffee shop I like to visit yesterday by myself with my hookah and textbooks and got a lot of work done. I happened to be reading for accounting which you can't skim and hope to comprehend. Since I injured my left frontal lobe my short term memory was out of whack so I usually get distracted and go slow when I read, but yesterday was really pleasant and productive.
The cool part was while I was chit chatting with the manager/proprietor during breaks who was the only employee working, we started talking about scars somehow. I let her know once I fade my hair I can show her my scalp split and she seemed excited. she asked me how it happened and i explained it was form skating. Turns out her house is the one I've seen in the neighborhood with a 5ft half-pipe in the backyard. Her husband and friend want to apply graphics and do their own artwork on blank decks, and I happen to press a small amount of decks. on top of that, the coffee shop has artwork for sale coming in and out, so it'd be a perfect venue should we want to sell them. I'm not thinking business or anything, but making decks is a fun hobby and should I team up with the husband I can up his stoke... and should we sell them i'll at least break even. I'm stoked

Re: Whoe Else Is Recovering From An Injury.
honestly dependence on percocet is a worry, I am paying very close attention to my my body's reaction and I will go cold turkey if I start to feel any recreational effects but right now pain is my biggest worry.

Im just getting back to riding after a broken leg. I am better at riding now though. I got down standup 180's and now I've been doing a lot of fast slides and pre-drifts. It feels great to be back in working condition.

I'm pretty sure the docs didnt want to give me any narcotics because they expected i'd be dealing with psychological issues while my brain repairs and didnt want me using them to cope. they were right about the problems, but i dont think they've been too severe and i never used the meds to distract myself, they're strictly a physical pain cure

Careful, tramadol is just a synthetic opioid. It will still leave you feeling fuzzy and spaced.
