did they say it was a basilar skull fracture? The audiosensory nerve from your ear to your brain runs just under the skull. Skull fracture low and in the back can end up severing that nerve like cutting the wires to your speaker. It's called neurosensory hearing loss. The only real service that ear will provide from now on is keeping your shades on straight.
Make sure you tell them if that hearing doesn't come back. You'll go through a ton of hearing tests. I know why? been there done that. Mar '84. I'm right handed so I always answered the phone with my left hand so I could write with my right. A couple days after coming out of a 2 week coma, the nurse tells me I have a long distance call at the desk. I wobble out to answer and am going 'hello? hello?'. When I took it away from ear I faintly heard something and put it to my right ear. That's when I discovered the left ear was dead. It's gonna throw off your equilibrium too. Walk like a drunk for awhile and get dizzy if you look above the horizontal. With years of practice, you'll overcome that but you'll always have a kind of ringing in your ear (kind of like when you're diving underwater). Trying to locate the source of a noise or voice will be a frustration for the rest of your life. It SUCKS!! Hear a new and strange noise in your cage? Too bad. You'll have to enlist someone else to help you figure out where it's coming from. Fricking 35 years later and the old lady will still ask me to help her find her cell phone. It rings and I have NO idea where it's coming from. Oh and as far as hearing aids... yeah, you can wear a device in each ear and all that happens is the bum ear is transmitted to the good ear so it doesn't accomplish anything. No stereo or direction finding capabilities. I passed on that option. Oh, and the night it happened, I had just put together a new stomping stereo system in the crib and listened to a fav album. The last stereo experience I'll ever remember.

dude gtfo. right now, you no longer belong in this thread. blisters? come on...especially after 8ftbed's horror story.
...anyway, glad you're recovered from your road rash and stabbing incidents.

60-65 mph hill here in CO.
Riding with a friend who can name himself if he wants.
We were drag racing down the main stretch that becomes some chicanes.
Heres where it gets fuzzy.
Coming into the second sweeper, i think he hit a rock. we have great trust in each other's abilities and ride together all the time, so we were VERY close.
the rock caused him to wobble and take out the front of my board i think.
he was luckily able to control the general direction in which he slid and landed safely on the side of the road from what i understand.
Me: not so lucky. the turn we fell in happened to also have the ONLY ****IN GUARDRAIL on the ENTIRE ROAD!!!!!!!!!! gay.
I slid on my side on the road, kept sliding and hit the guardrail with my back (still don't know how and never will), and continued into some ditch.
now i sit here typing with 2 rods, multiple screws, and MANY staples down my back thanks to about 6 or 7 broken vertebrae.
this all sucks very hard and i wont be able to do anything for about a year, but on the other hand, i will be able to and hopefully making a complete recovery to an accident that could have EASILY ended my life.
dude that sucks. hope you get well sooner then expected

Re: Whoe Else Is Recovering From An Injury.
Friday night was hitting a garage for the first time in a long time, easter weekend so alot of people were out (it was a garage at my school). Messing around with standing drifting and after about 20 or so runs down took the second corner too hard and slid out way to far, i guess i high sided and rolled and nail the back of my head on the ground. Really scary at first making sure i could stand up and walk with out getting dizzy. Had a goose egg on my head the size of my palm when cupping my had. Now my head has this big bruise and my neck is killing me. Remeber kids wear a helmet if your going to be doing any thing beyond a casual stroll, it sucks having to leave, let alone ruin someone elses night, by having to leave a session from an injury that could have been preventable. Its hard to sleep when you cant lay on the back of your head.

Re: Whoe Else Is Recovering From An Injury.
At this years texas sizzler i was hit head on by a much larger skater going about 35 down the hill, while i was pushing on my board up. I got knocked out for about 10 seconds and have a little amnesia. Concussion. Apparntly we tried to dodge each other in the same direction. Four days later I was skating a garage with some buddies, and me and another guy took the same line and i fractured my collar bone near the AC joint. I also have a very swollen and sore ankle from the first injury, thats been clicking.
Im also very interested in the spine protection, if anyone has any input/experience on that.

Re: Whoe Else Is Recovering From An Injury.
slammed into the ground after loosing it on a corner going over a drain grate at around 40mph at a parking garage a few nights ago, dazed me up pretty bad, and i actually blacked out after trying to stand up and move around lol. luckily no head injuries, just needed to rest there for a bit and my elbow is compleettly jacked up.
good times haha. you live, you learn.

Re: Whoe Else Is Recovering From An Injury.
Tried to footbrake on a hill that was steeper than I thought, I guess the ground was uneven or something because I wound up eating #### pretty hard. Whacked my cheek on the ground and jammed my knee kind of hard. My face looks pretty horrific, but it's my knee that's going to be hurting for a couple weeks. Next investment: kneepads.

thanks, but don't be scared. seriously. best advice i can give you is to not think about it and keep looking to where you want to go. DO NOT look at the guardrail/curb/obstacle on the side of the road. if you think you're going to fall, you probably will. stay confident and stay safe.
