Re: Whoe Else Is Recovering From An Injury.
####, some of you guys have some hardcore injuries I would never want to see ANYONE endure. I feel like a pussy with my sting, itchy road rash on my ass, left shoulder, left forearm, and left knee after Portland's Slippery Fastfest yesterday... I hope you guys with those intense back injuries and the like get well, that's not something anyone should have to go through.

Re: Whoe Else Is Recovering From An Injury.
Fell last Sunday, supermaned into the road and banged my knee really bad and was just wearing jeans with no pads... hoping it isnt anything more than a bruise and the wounds... would really hate for it to be a Ligament tear (which I'm told is unlikely, fingers crossed)
I enjoy going down...

Shin splints in my pushing leg. I wasn't aware you could get them from skating but apparently you can. I can do DH, but anything that requires pushing is more or less out of the question right now. Walking sucks, too...

3 minutes of stretching per day will make the shin splints go away. That's all it will take.
When I first started running distance it was killing me and I picked a tip out of a mag.
It doesn't sound like it'll work but if you'll start doing this every day, one day you'll realize the pain is gone and it won't return as long as you keep stretching.
Face a wall with one foot forward near the wall. The other foot about 2' back.
Keep your body and back leg straight. Straight line from head to heel.
Hands on wall and lean forward eaaaasssssssy, keeping that back foot flat on the floor.
Lean just far enough to feel your calf muscle pull a little.
Don't bounce and don't go any further than just feeling a stretch in the calf.
Hold it for 30 seconds, stand up and change legs.
Do it 3 times for each leg and you're done.
As time goes by, you'll be able to put the leg back further while keeping the foot flat. A greater angle of lean until you just start to feel the calf stretch.
Your calf muscles tighten up with the repetitive use of running, pushing and end up causing the shin muscles to pull away from the bone, resulting in the pain.
I started doing that in 1977 and haven't had a shin splint since. One of my daughters got into running and had killer shin splints. Once she started this, problem solved.

I've been doing this since last Wednesday, as well as other stretches, icing, and heating, and it really hasn't gotten much better. Skating for 6 hours on Sunday and 2 hours last night probably didn't help much, either. It feels good and I can walk around right after stretching but after probably 25 steps it starts to hurt again and I resume limping. Balls.

Got a busted ankle, I'll up some x-rays when I get them (they're sending them to me on a cd apparently). Happened March 4th, I won't be off crutches till May 21. Totally sucks nuts.

Don't stop. It takes so little time, hell you can even knock 'em out in the shower. Still, keep doing those heel planted calf stretches everyday and you're going to have an 'ah-ha!' moment one day when you realize you hadn't really thought about the pain for a day or two. Myself, my daughter and actually, a couple of friends, all went through the same thing.

It's slowly getting better, good enough that I don't really have to limp anymore. Now it just needs to finish healing up so I can actually push more than 10 times on my board before switching legs due to the pain...

Re: Whoe Else Is Recovering From An Injury.
I should be practicing (learning) how to push with either foot. yeah, I better do that.
sorry about the pelvis krebhorn
my foot and ankle are feeling/looking better... after losing balance last Fri getting my harley off the trailer. Fell towards me and pinned my left ankle across the edge of the wheel fender. Coulda/woulda been worse but I managed to get the right knee up and brace the seat. Live, learn, unload bikes while stone sober maybe.

Re: Whoe Else Is Recovering From An Injury.
I was kayak surfing several weeks ago. When i put in the tide was low and the waves at the beach were small. On the way in, tide was in and the beach was breaking with head high surf. I bailed upright outside the break so as to have more confidence unhooking the skirt and lap belt, but the boat got 1/2 full of water. Landing it, I got run over by the damn thing in the wave surges with 800lbs of water in it. The rail and maybe fins scraped across my hip, felt like the fins had cut into my drysuit, but no. Nice big hip pointer bruise on it. A skin bruise which showed later in a stacked bruises kind of way. Had to lie down on the beach for three minutes catching my breath, felt like I had been wrestling a bear.
So next week I'm boarding for the first time of the season on my KS M1 which is a lot less turny than all my other boards. I fall over to the inside because I'm going too slow to "bring it under" and land of course on the same spot. Protec hip pad pants minimized the damage. All better now.
Worst injury is a persistent turf toe type condition from bailing and pushing on my left foot, which I'm constantly stretching and strengthening but continues to annoy 2 years on. Loose trucks and parking the flexy loaded vanguard help.
