661 dj knee pad review
i bought these pads from 661 and i must say they are a great knee pad and very underrated. very comfy and not that bulky at all. i took a bail in them today and they did their job quite nicely and at $34 the price is hard to beat for the quality you get.
here is a link and anyone looking for new knee pads give these a shot

they have a size chart, take a measurement above and below your knee and they give you a size based on those measurements. if your stuck on whether to go up or down take the bigger of the two sizes. hope that helped

I'm the opposite, I pretty much only fall on my elbow / forearms. The 661 2X4 elbow / forearm pad is the bomb. I've shredded mine and ready for a new set.

I'm really picking on the protective equipment that I use. Its got to be able to protect me well, along with providing flexibility, so my movement not restricted while I skate. I use a variety of sports protective equipment, depending on what style of riding that I'm doing at the time.

yup you are correct they are mountain biking pads, that's why not many people know about these but to answer your question it does not much matter because they are essentially skate pads, they have hard plastic to slide on and have good range of motion, in my experience these pads are better then skate pads.

Hey, guys, knees are all the SAME in terms of vulnerability. I lost my left knee last month on a rocky country road when my motorcycle (dirt bike) and I went down. I, stupidly had no knee protection AND was wearing shorts!. The mishap severed my patellar ligament and laid my knee open so badly that the emergency room doc exclaimed, "Uhh, that's BAD!!" So much for bedside manner, huh?
Nokeboarder, you are one sharp dude. I really appreciate your cogent explanation of the attributes of the 661 dj knee pads. Plus, I, too, wondered how to determine the proper size. Many thanks for your great posts. May all your dumps be smooooooth sliders.

I like my Fatboys alot (they are shaped really nice inside) but I think I'd like to try those on.
They sell em at bike shops in LA maybe?
I wonder if these are any better?
The photo on the bottom are the SixSixOne "Pro" DJ Knee pads. The main differences between the Pro and the regular DJ Knees: the Pro has additional padding below, above, and to the sides of the plastic cap. Then, the cap itself is larger in size. Finally, the Pro has the velcro opening on the backing material - so you can put them on or take them off without removing shoes...
Unfortunately, SixSixOne discontinued the Pro DJ Knee models. If you can find a pair (some shops still have them in stock - bike shops the best candidates) - buy them. They won't be around much longer. I think we have a single pair left... Good pads for their intended use, definitely larger and "bulkier" than the standard DJ knees, but giving you more protection for the additional size/weight.

Re: 661 dj knee pad review
Hey, guys, I have some questions that, apparently, only you actual users of the 661 DJs can answer (I've tried the 661 website and calling dealers to no avail).
If you wear long-leg jeans sometimes, and shorts other times, will one size fit both?
Does the DJ model use velcro closures (one dealer said they were elastic pullover types)? I don't have a local dealer for such things and have not seen the actual product.
For proper sizing, exactly where on the leg does one measure, and, are measurements taken on a bare leg?
Many thanks!!

froogle (or "google shopping") says that there's still plenty pro pads floating around the internet. I may have to get some

The regular DJ knees have the two velcro straps, but also a solid neoprene sleeve underneath those two straps (see photo on earlier post). The regular DJ knees are a "slip on" design - solid neoprene backing material.
The Pro DJ knees also have two velcro straps, but the neoprene backing material is split with velcro on each side. i.e. the open up and you can put the Pro DJs on or off without removing your shoes.
661 measurements are provided at the top opening and bottom opening of the pads. 3-4 inches above your knee cap for the regular DJs, 4-5 inches above for the Pros. With the velcro straps, you should be ok with sizing these for both with/without jeans.
Size, Top Opening, Bottom Opening
SM, 14 in, 12 1/2 in
MD, 16 1/2 in, 13 1/2 in
LG, 17 1/4 in, 14 in
And yes, I actually wear DJ knees. For longboarding, though, I'd recommend the Pros... Like I said - if you can find them, buy them. SixSixOne ran out of them over 6 months ago.

on the 661 website, is the price for the DJ knees/elbows for the price of a PAIR of them or just the price PER pad?

Stan, the pricing is for a pair of pads. I don't think you can buy them separately.
As for the better PRO model, I just purchased a pair from Competition Accessories (Motorcycle Helmets, Motorcycle Apparel, Motorcycle Tires, Motorcycle Helmet and Motorcycle Gear from Competition Accessories) for $41.00 plus $12:00 shipping (outrageous shipping charge!!).
The regular DJs are tubular and have to be pulled on over your feet while the PROs open completely for easier fitting directly onto the knee with your feet planted on the ground.
