Re: No pads/helmet club
Florida is flat. I need to get a helmet and pads. I don't know where my old ones are. Up in Georgia, I wore gear when I'd bomb Walnut St or Vaughndale (the steepest, curviest road I have ever seen)

Re: No pads/helmet club
I've been riding with helmet, gloves and kneepads for a long time. Me falling is totally possible cause i like to push the limits and messing up myself is not cool. I bail now and then and get up without injuries ready to get back on the board, i like to keep it that way.
But anyways, i've had some accidents where i've slid and spun out of control on my gloves, pads and board and scraped my elbow. It doesnt hurt that much really, its just bloody. But that was the reason I started wearing all the other stuff too, to prevent that. Why no elbow pads you may ask? They are uncomfortable and I hate them.
Are there any kind of sleeves that I can wear that are like elbowpads but not the bulky knee pad kind of pads, but more like the speedsuit material kinda sleeve pads just to prevent scraping and minor impacts?
PS: Yea I know, my description of stuff is not that good.

Re: No pads/helmet club
One of my friends that always wears a helmet went to the skatepark (on his bmx) and goes to drop into the bowl (simple stuff). It was 35 celcius that day and he was riding for a long time so he took his helmet off. The ONLY time he took his helmet off to drop into the bowl was when he fell. He cut his head open and started to bleed badly. He's alright but just shows that it can happen at anytime.
WEAR A HELMET!!!

Re: No pads/helmet club
I wear a helmet at all times, even just cruising. U never know when u might slip or hit a rock and fall. I've been shortboarding for 4 years and longboarding for like a month now and I have great balance on both boards. I never wore a helmet as a shortboarder but when I got my longboard I bought a helmet too. Good thing I did, ive hit it a few times, not enough to break it but definitely enough to hurt your head without it on
trust me, even if u think it's stupid and u think that people will make fun of u (which is the main reason people dont wear helmets), it's not. Don't be stupd and bust your head open.

Re: No pads/helmet club
If it weren't for the fact that I've been broke for the past two months, I would have bought a helmet two months ago. X(

Being broke is no excuse to not wear a helmet...

So...I should make a helmet out of base molecules, or what?

That literally made me lol. Look up the Ian Tillman foundation though. A helmet for the price of shipping if you promise to wear it. (I'd still buy one if you can afford it, but if you're really broke, these people's generosity would be a good option.)

i don't wear them because they look gay,
Youll feel much more gay and stupid when you crack your head open going only 10 mph and hit a wall.
Ive been riding for over a year now and i warm up ever day by cruising around my neighbors drive way...its not big but its paved and i can stretch and work in my legs for the day. Anyways i was just cruising going about 5-10mph...all it took was to hit a small rock...i got pitched off the board and smashed my forehead onto the lip of a brick wall about waist high. However! I was wearing a helmet. the brick wall has an indendation of where my helmet hit and its cracked. my helmet is fractured and unusable...and i only had a headache for a few hours.

Re: No pads/helmet club
Hey guys! I wouldn't be posting this if I didn't wear a helmet:
Speed wobble : and confidence wobble.
I don't know about you guys, but whenever I try for something new, I pad up like nothing else. Kneepads, elbows, gloves, helmet. the other day I was getting the hang of sliding. I leaned forward a bit, got thrown off the board and would've had some serious rash if I didn't have my kneepads on.
Look at it this way: sliding on your pads is just as fun as sliding on your board! The slide NEVER ENDS!
