Re: No pads/helmet club
Opinions, opinions.
Honestly, I think that any longboarder without a helmet looks stupid. They don't look serious and it's telling me that they longboard just to have that longboarding image.
You're not a real longboarder. You're just a guy who is trying to look cool by longboarding.

Well yea cruising with a full set of pads on does look a bit dumb, but you kinda sent the wrong message with your first post.

Even when skating 5mph all the time like you it's still a good idea to wear wrist guards.

Protection for the win
Your body is a temple & not a playground. You are young, and don't realize this yet. Look at people who abused their bodies when young and the pain they suffer later. Now a days the kids bust up and call it "good times". Just wait till you age and you suffer arthritis from previous injuries. No major injury ever goes away. Looking "gay" will help me continue to feel great and skate into my 60's.
No one would dare call Tony hawk "gay" or Adam & Adam, or any of the other great skaters out their for being padded up. Become good enough and no amount of padding can make you look stupid, it makes you look like you know what the heck you're doing.
I understand that many people will not get this because they're too busy looking "tough". When I hit the point in life where image stopped being a concern in my life, I began to live.

lets celebrate feeling free and not needing pads to ride, no haters please..
sure some styles of riding require protection, but that includes about 1% of skaters on this board.
Not to hate, but...
I think you're the 1% on this forum who DOESN'T wear a helmet. And looking gay? Please, grow up. You'll be looking pretty 'gay' when a muscular male nurse is feeding you as you stare aimlessly at nothing laying in your hospital bed where you spend each and every remaining day of your life being carried to the bathroom because you don't know who you are and can't walk or feed/bathe/clothe yourself.
Helmets save lives. Pads save skin. There's nothing homosexual about it.

Re: No pads/helmet club
i remember in elementary school a few years ago, my health teacher was hit in the head with a basketball, it was thrown by a first grader, it hit her in just the right spot, she needed surgery, if it was thrown by someone with a little more power, she would be blind right now, imagine how much worse off she would have been if she fell off a skateboard and hit solid concrete in the same spot, she would be blind, and a vegetable.
i think i would rather look "gay" than risk screwing up my life.

Re: No pads/helmet club
You can easily kill yourself or badly mangle your body going under 15mph - which really isn't all that fast even on a skateboard, look out a car window when you're going 15 and notice how slow you appear to be going. People break bones without a skateboard all the time, too, all it takes is some bad luck and a fall in the wrong way. After really hammering my knees a couple times, I'm investing in some knee pads. It's not a matter of being a chump or not being confident in my abilities, it's a question of having to limp around for two weeks because I fell - or being able to get right back up and keep skating.
You'd have to be real gullible to worry more about people thinking you look silly than grievous bodily harm. Don't be a sucker, at least wear a ######' helmet.

board.
prepare to be hated on.
you, sir, are a clown. 70 percent of accidents (in a car) occur within ten miles of the home, where you're prone to be going lower speeds and not wear a seatbelt. i.e. where you're comfortable. this equates to low speed cruising on the side walk where death is an miniscule pebble that bucks you into traffic. i remember when i used to not where a helmet. i thought the probabilities were on my side. out of the thousands of times i took my boards out crash-free, i only crashed hard on my head twice. once was just a scrape on the scalp, and the other resulted in short term amnesia. ask anyone in a similar situation, looking back we would have rather worn a helmet those thousands of times to prevent those two injuries than not.
you say helmets look "gay", so side-stepping the natural errors via homophobic fear in your syntax, which is more attractive- an inch thick metallic bucket on your dome, or lifelong banishment to your wheelchair with strangers wiping up your drool and cleaning your bowels with a vacuum.
now go out and skate. if you choose not to wear a helmet, i hope it's far enough up your ass to protect you should you fall.

Re: No pads/helmet club
at least wear a lip. I dont wear knee pads if its just cruising but I will usually grab the half shell if I'm doing anything but cruising to the store up the street.
If your worried about looking "gay" steal a bunch of your dads titty mags under the bed, cut out some centerfolds and tape them to your helmet. That sounds like a man helmet to me.

Honestly the only time I've ever been really been called "gay" because of my helmet is in the skatepark...
... by the kids who are standing on the side trying to nail a half-assed kickflip.
The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.

Re: No pads/helmet club
i try to rock a helmet at all times, the only time i really don't is riding my board to class and thats like a 2 minute ride with no obstacles. The knee pads and full face only get busted out when im going fast and slide gloves saved my ass (and my hands, literally) a little while back so i always wear them.
