The Fail Club
who doesn't use pads or helmets, and why dont you?
i don't wear them because they look gay, and they just dont feel natural, and i definatley dont need them for just cruising around the city..
lets celebrate feeling free and not needing pads to ride, no haters please..
sure some styles of riding require protection, but that includes about 1% of skaters on this board.

so many things wrong with your post. but i must say you're really brave to voice such an opinion, and you obviously haven't gone fast enough to start worrying about your head.
my vote, helmets ftw.

Re: No pads/helmet club
No thanks. I prefer to be protected by at least a helmet and slide gloves at all times.

can we call this the fail club?
alot of sanctioned events will turn you away when you show up with no helmet and pads
helmets and loose trucks save lives

Re: No pads/helmet club
i never ever see skaters wearing gear when they are just cruising around, cept for little kids, but their parents probably make them wear it lol... i own gear but only use it if i want to try crazy ####. im in sydney CBD, australia btw..

Re: No pads/helmet club
i remember when i said something was gay when i thought it was stupid....ahhh middle school...
Honestly i dont wear a helmet, but the fastest i go is probably 20 max and thats once every few weeks. I do wear gloves when i feel like sliding though.

it isn't stupid, it just looks goofy if you are all padded up when u are just cruising around.. i dont think i've ever seen a skater over the age of 13 who wore gear when cruising.. and i live in a city with quite a few skaters..

Re: No pads/helmet club
does just wearing a helmet count as padded up? because ive found that 90% of the falls i have happen when im just cruising or messing around and thats why i wear a helmet when when im cruising

Re: No pads/helmet club
well i'm not gonna wear full on knee pads and elbow pads when i'm cruising, but i make it a point to wear a lid when i know i'll be hitting some hills on the way.

Re: No pads/helmet club
The helmet thing is a no brainer , one hit to head in the right spot can kill you.
The possibility of loosing skin and breaking bones, is something we all accept.
But lets not ruin the impression that we are crazy by giving way to any notion that we are stupid. Wear a helmet.

this is all you gota do
1) take your board
2) find a busy intersection
3) kick your board out into it
4) make sure it snaps in half
you dont deserve to skate

Re: No pads/helmet club
dude I can sorta see what your say'n. but most people on here know how easy it is to fall off and have been very happy to look a little "gay" in there helmet while bashing there head into the road then judo roll to a a stand and Da Dah! Im a live ....
as an old dude I have some words of wisdom or old man talk what ever you call it.
anyhow its like this , with freedom comes responsibility and you are free on your ride and you are responsible to yourself and love ones to ride another day.
this whole gay thing is a wank mostly comes from kickflippers (generally) as most people who ride longer boards at speed know your peers think your a dick if you dont wear safety stuff...at least a helmet and gloves.
and I wont even go ride with someone if they dont have a helmet . (always carry a spear in the boot)..
just be safe ... try and hook up with a crew that ride good and wear gear it may give you a whole new appreciation on the matter.

Re: No pads/helmet club
I've been longboarding for about a year and a half, I do some power slides and some flip jumps and I like to cruise. I've never worn a helmet or pads. I can see both sides. If you need pads just to cruise around town and do a little carving or tricks then your a chump. But then again youd have to be insane to shred a nasty hill without pads. Not to mention that homeboy's wording was a little gay in itself. seriously if you put up something and say NO HATERS your just asking for it.

Re: No pads/helmet club
I I'm pushing around flat land, e.g. around town or through campus, I can understand not wearing a helmet and pads. However going down hills at all really requires safety gear partic on roads. I always wear a helmet to and from uni. If you fall even at 15mph and hit your head your going to be in a bad state if your not helmeted.
Pads will save your skin, but aren't life saving so I can understand choosing not to wear them (I don't wear them).

Re: No pads/helmet club
Skating in the French Quarter makes me nervous when I don't have anything on.
Dodging drunk pedestrians, drunk drivers, construction, open manholes, people carrying #### across the street (yes, even glass windows), beads (they're a gamble to run over), not to mention what you open your skin up to when you fall- glass, vomit and everything else that walks and breeds in the cesspool below sea level that is New Orleans.
I'll wear kneepads when I'm really skating, not just going to work..
I need to find a helmet that fits me.
