I know that 187's are great quality, but some of us simply cant afford them and need some pads on a limited budget, so we then look at pads such as these triple 8's or protecs...
now, who has these (or protecs? [park or street]) and can give us a review?

haha not really. It was a 45mph run, but one of the slower runs of the day. I was on my 4th run down the hill and i just got instantaneous death wobbles. No time to pendy, so i super-manned it in shorts and a t-shirt. Not fun.

OK how about this....I bought a set of triple 8s in 2000 when I was starting to skate park again after 4 years in Guam. First slam they slipped, I got nasty road rash on my left knee, shredded the pad....bought a set of Protec kneepads and elbowpads....kneepads lasted about a month of regular bowl/park skating before they packed/stretched out so badly that even with gaskets they slipped.... bought a set of recaps and went back to my beat up Boneless Pro kneepads (I don't think they are made anymore though there is website for them, stay away from the Made in China Boneless Park Pads) for a year before buying a set of ProDesigned kneepads....I've had my PD's for 8 years they are worn but still as comfortable as the day I first put them on at Skater Island. The Protec Elbow pads lasted me about 8 years though mostly because I wasn't falling on them much, or for that matter wearing them because the were uncomfortable. I replaced them with 187 fly elbow pads last summer and have been grateful for the added coverage, padding and most importantly comfort. I'm still a few years from buying another set of pads but short of custom there aren't any other pads on the market that are worth spending money on IMO

Re: Triple eight park pads...
I have been using the Triple 8's for a month or so now. I got the knee and elbow pad kit at a local shop. I like them so far. The knee pads took a while to break in. When new they were really stiff and were cutting into behind my knee. After a week of skating hard, they got better and now they are very comfy. I like the fact they are open back knee pads and are so easy to get on and off. They have not slipped on me yet in a bail, but I have not really bailed hard on them yet either (knock on wood...). I would say they are sized pretty large. I got the larges and I am 6'2" and 195lbs. They are big on me. I need to pull the straps to their ends to get them snugged up. I also have been using their wrist guards since I started skating (I work from home on a computer all day and watch our little boy - I can NOT afford to lose my hands!!) and they have held up great to a lot of bails.
Overall, I like the pads. I would have maybe gone down a size. They get a little hot, but all pads do. I would buy them again.

Re: Triple eight park pads...
My Triple 8's have treated me well actually! For the price the protection is decent enough. I've had them slip occasionally, but nothing ridiculous and it just caused a touch of road rash. but I've thrashed them and they are falling apart.
They are comfy now though!
I think i'd like a set of those pro-designed...

Re: Triple eight park pads...
I have some protec park kneepads. Though they are nice and padded, they are a bit bulkier than id like as i only really use them for Dh. If i could go back i would go back to the protec street, much smaller and better for tEh DeanheeeL

Re: Triple eight park pads...
For me its a toss up between them being too loose and slipping, and them chewing the #### out of the back of my leg. It seems like it gets way worse when in a tuck position.
The elbow pads fit well and haven't caused me any discomfort. I have busted a few good times, and can say it was def better wit the pads then without. I think I may have also bought my pads slightly on the small side...
