    Default Triple 8 Helmets

Alright so I've limited my next helmet purchase to the triple 8 helmet. Except now I don't know which is the better choice, the brainsaver CPSC certified one or the brainsaver with sweatsaver? I know the obvious choice would be to get the CPSC certified one, but the sweatsaver deal is appealing as well. Any suggestions? recommendations?

If anybody has a better choice of helmet and would recommend getting that instead, that's fine as well.

    thanks

Not really, I have a so-so triple 8 helmet and I fell on it and still got a very very mild concussion. My friends Pro-tec helmet is a flimsy piece of #### and i'm convinced that if he fell on it he'd still get hurt. The padding matters more than you would think.

I have the brain saver with sweat saver, and my girlfriend has the same sized brain saver with the better foam. There is a noticable difference in the fit, the sweat saver foam is a lot looser/conforming to your head. She complains about her foam itching a lot, but ithink its because her head is just a little too big for the helmet. She says the sweat saver liner is more comfortable. I think both helmets will protect you like a half shell should, but sweatsaver not as much as the normal foam. However the sweat saver may be slightly more comfortable. Ill take pics of them side by side if you want me to

of you hav an xtra large head, daddies sells an xtra large liner for the brainsaver helmet- its like 14 bucks tho, so that adds to the total cost of the helmet. I have the trip 8 and i love it - the rubber coating is real nice

I have the triple eight brainsaver. The one with the sweat saver lining. It is by far the comfiest half shell i have worn, fits great to my head and doesn't get itchy or uncomfortable, I find myself wearing it at all times during a session whether im taking a break or getting a ride up the hill. 10/10 for comfort

As far as protection it is fine for a multi-impact shell. Because its multi-impact i would be way more ####ed if I got hit by a car or whatever compared to if i was wearing a CPSC shell. Its saved me from a few slams on my head though, but wearing it over 40-45 is kinda sketch. If your looking for a good helmet for cruising, carving or low speed sliding this would be a great decision.

Cool sounds like the helmet for me.
So in summary, the sweatsaver is great for comfort and multiple, relatively small impacts.
The CPSC shell would be for more highspeed type riding for protection against a single hard impact.
    Think I got that right?

For those of you with the sweatsaver liners, do you find that the foam packs out at all after some use? I mean like how padding in shoes or snowboard boots isn't as plush or tight after a bit. I ask because I ordered a medium when I ordered my longboard and it's a bit snug. Not overly tight, and I have longer hair which doesn't help. I think large would be too big, I wear medium in my Protec and Red snowboard helmets.

Took a header in a concrete bowl last spring with a Triple 8 with the sweat saver liner. Hurt like a mother ****er, concussion, big lump etc...

In all honesty, for the type of fall I took I would have preferred cpsc type foam. The sweat saver foam is super thin.

i have the triple 8 with the sweat things.....i fall a lot.......my head is fine. keep in mind, i've never fallen going MORE than 15 or 20 mph. that being said, i have gone headfirst into a couple parking structure walls. THAT being said, i'd say go for what's cheapest....i myself am about to invest in a fullface.

That is the stupidest thing I've read on the 'Fish to date.

Dude, your helmet covers your head and skull, which house your brain. You're basically saying when protecting your brain go for the cheapest.

I think you better reconsider how much damage 15-20 mph headers into concrete walls have done to you. You are obviously not thinking straight.

read to understand. i said for just a brain bucket go for the cheapest, then put the money into a fullface. i mean, helmets are helmets, and even the cheapest give you good protection. but hey, you have +22 Rep power, so you must be right.

Sorry, it's just not cool to give crap advice. Little green boxes have nothing to do with it.

Bucket helmets are all fairly cheap compared to full faces. For $30. you can have a so so helmet or a really good helmet. Saying go for the cheapest one is really just wrong. It's not about cheap or expensive, it's really about design.

Im gonna step in here and say go with either the Bell Faction or the Protec Ace. Both are double certified and will do you well. I own the Faction and ill tell you this, its not particularly comfy or attractive. It is actually quite large and strange looking but by God it gets the job done. It feels fine for me and I know that itll protect me when comparing it to my friend's standard protec (not ace). I think this is an issue where you sometimes have to sacrifice some comfort and style for safety, so since youre getting a helmet and looking like that anyway, go all the way and protect your melon.

    Hope that helps a bit

i don't see how there's really a difference between the triple-8 i have and the bell one of my friends has that cost more. i feel just as comfortable and safe in both. i guess i SHOULD have said 'get the most inexpensive without sacrificing safety' not 'get the cheapest.' i apologize and take it back, i guess all i'm saying is that you don't need to go all out on a bucket. i'm honestly just glad he's decided to WEAR a helmet in the first place.

Cam, you're wrong. Your helmet has that bullshit soft foam like mine, and Jon's has really hard foam. The hard foam actually does something when you crash. Our helmets are not safe, but they make us feel better.

Get hard foam. Bell, Giro, whatever.

The trick is that a more safe helmet will cost no more or only marginally more than an unsafe helmet. Or sometimes even less. But it's not like bearings where you can just make a blanket statement like "$10. or $40. all bearings feel the same."

I use a Triple 8 Brainsaver with multi impact. It is not rated at all, and costs $38.

You can get a Bell Faction for $40. and it's CPSC Bicycle Safety Standard Certified and ASTM 1492 Skate Certified.

both the triple 8 helments, the one with sweatsaver and the regular cpsc one, are the same price, but price wasn't an issue to begin with lol. but ill probably go with the sweatsaver for comfort since i dont play on going down super fast hills anyway.
