Non 'slide glove' gloves
Hey guys, I was just curious, does anyone wear gloves when just cruising/commuting? I mean without slide pucks, just somehhing to save your palms from the pavement if you take a spill. Something like cycling gloves or half finger gloves with the leather palms. Or do those that bother with gloves simply opt for sliders?
I was out for my first ever ride last night, took one tiny bail, put it palms to the pavement. Didn't break skin, just that numb feeling from scraping.

ya dude, i don't wear gloves when just commuting/cruising cuz it's flat here in houston, but if there were some hills, i'd wear some leather gloves (not necessarily slide gloves but something to protect them from the asphalt

Re: Non 'slide glove' gloves
For a non-slide glove I found the mechanics-type gloves and those meant for heavy users of power tools the perfect option. Some brands come with extra knuckle protection and cushioned/padded palms...available in all home improvement stores.

Re: Non 'slide glove' gloves
I wore some bike gloves before I got slide gloves. They don't hold up very well. Just get some slidegloves. Your less likely yogurt your wristsand hands because you slide to a stop instead of an abruptstop that would result in more than just a little roadrash

Re: Non 'slide glove' gloves
what would be the point, its not really like having slide pucks on your gloves would be a hassle
might as well wear the slide gloves so you can do some slides while commuting
the heck is rebound?

Re: Non 'slide glove' gloves
Cool thanks guys. It is flat here too, but you can get some speed in certain areas, and here is a windy trail with a lot of people along the river. I will take a look for something, we have mechanic gloves at work too.

Re: Non 'slide glove' gloves
i have a super cheap pair of multi-purpose, fingerless "mechanics" type gloves that i originally picked up for like 4 bucks at fleet farm to use as paintball gloves. now i use 'em whenever i'm gonna be out for a session of more than a couple hours. they have saved my palms on a couple of occasions, and keep your hands from getting tore up by your griptape when you pick your board up too.
i don't really like wearing my slide gloves all the time because they're homemade out of leather work gloves that are really big and awkward. so i actually throw on the fingerless ones and then my slide gloves over that for a nice tight fit. i tend to take my slide gloves on and off at various points during a ride depending on what i'm doing. garage/speed/slides=gloves on. cruising/casual slow riding=gloves off

Re: Non 'slide glove' gloves
if you want to protect your palms/wrists from falls then wrist guards sound like what you are looking for. for the most part slide glove won't protect your wrists from a hard fall.. Actually I have some brand new pro-tec wrist guards that I don't use. I'll send them your way if you cover the shipping.

I wear an old pair of lambskin driving gloves. They're nice and comfy, and boy do they look cool.
Saved my hands from tearing a couple times.
And yeah, I wear driving gloves to drive too. I have a sweet pair of deerskin gloves in my glovebox right now hahaha.

Re: Non 'slide glove' gloves
I decided to take on a small run yesterday and didnt feel like putting on my slide gloves so I just put on leather gloves with nothing on, I drifted out and by instinct I put my hand down, which let to an abrupt stop and jolted me off the deck. Not a good idea ;D

Re: Non 'slide glove' gloves
Haven't worn gloves once. Just take a couple of falls and your hands will get tough. why would you want soft hands anyway unless they are for your woman.
