Default The Straitjacket.

I've seen the adds. I've seen the YouTube video. I haven't seen anyone with one of these Straitjackets from Insane Asylum. Gimmick item? Useful thing? Pipe dream? I mean, what's up with that thing? How much do they expect you to pay for it? I'm not saying I'm wanting to buy one but I am curious about the thing. It does look kind of fun to come blazing down a hill and "popping the chute" with that thing. With a good tail wind would it make a good sail? Is the thing even safe? Does it hamper your movements any? Do you get full extension of your limbs? If I was wearing this thing could I put my arms down to slide or drag my hand through corners?

Anyone got anything on this product?

Insane Asylum. The guys that make the Veloz truck. They make a "braking system" for longobarders. It's like a nylon flag with two sleeves you wrap around your back. When you want to brake you hold out your arms and it creates a sort of parachute sail action to increase the effect of air breaking.
You can go to veloztrucks.com and see some pics of it and the video of the guy using it. No pricing that I could see.

I tried their site last night. They didn't have a price up for the straitjacket. I just tried it again and no price. Am I just missing it.

I just want to see one in action in person or try one for the fun of it. Not so sure if it's something I really use that much. But I still have to ask about it.

Personally i try to wear a zip up hoodie when trying new runs. I unzip the hoodie and hold out the sides it works decently to slow me down.

As much as I think I want to try one of these things out, I have to say I'd probably laugh if I saw someone come riding past me with one on.

it's a terrible idea....

it screams to anyone... here use this to skate beyond your skill level and be 100% safe.

Straight from their sight... "this eliminates the need to slide or drag body parts..." frankly. i can stop faster sliding or foot-breaking instead of using this.

mad peeps are going to get hurt with this ish. Oh check it... i can take on this monster hill cause i got my straight-jacket... and whaddya know, they "deploy" it and don't stop before the 4 way intersection.....

as latenite said. it is using a crutch. you have to learn to crawl before you walk. you have to learn how to stop (effectively) before you go.

I have to say that post above me, couldnt be more realistic. Its the same as people who go out and buy a new dh board, and read the info on it and it says super stable, never gets wobbles. So they go out and bomb the biggest hill they can find. People need to take a step back and realize that every "extreme sport" has a chain of steps that need to be followed. Things like this straight jacket just set everyone back another step....
Theres nothing in the world like a hard heel side carve on smooth pavement.

You know I did that it still didn't take me to a page with a price. I don't understand it. That's a bit much for a gimmick item though. Seems I could take a nylon flag and stitch some tube socks on it for sleeves. I just need to find me a flag. Might do the same job for cheap.

I agree with what these other guys are saying. You could get a serious case of over confidence and get in over your head quick if you don't know what you are doing. I think this thing might be fun to play with but I'm not going to trust it to save my life on a serious downhill run. Gear is no substitute for skill.
I still think a strong unexpected head wind or cross wind might rip you off. I know they say the science is behind them saying it won't happen but I've almost been blown off my board by sudden strong winds before.

I seem to remember doing something similar back when I was a kid. I'd wear a wind breaker and just put my hands in the pockets and let it balloon out and catch the wind. It worked okay.

Yes I am but I do have the possibility to have interests other than my obsession.
It all the fault of me looking through the Concrete Wave Buyers Guide while surfing the web at the same time.
Just be clad I'm not going off on the other things I found that I want in there like those sexy Santa Monica Airlines boards or the Skull Skate stuff or Virage trucks or Pool King boards or the Railslide mini halfpipe. Just to name a few but oh that Elise board is total sex.

See what you've done?

Oh man that thing...

People have tried over and over again to to "revolutionize" skateboarding with some stupid gimic. Whether it's a parachute or a motorized board or some other bullshit. All of these people have no idea what market research is. If any of these losers trying to score some easy cash actually talked to an average longboarder or skateboarder for 5 minutes before registering their company they would see that no one wants their stupid #### and that we just want to skate without any fancy #### hanging off our arms. I wonder what the next amazing contraption will be...

Perhaps a special longboard hat with blinkers on the back so you can indicate which way you're going. Maybe special longboarding underwear made of kevlar to avoid all those painful scratches on your scrotum... or maybe they should just skip the foreplay and sell tshirts that say "hey I'm an asshole that will buy anything some douche tries to sell me in a magazine" in giant letters on the front and back.

SWEET I'LL BUY 26!!!!!

At least this one is borderline hillarious. I'd love to see one in action for a laugh.

I'm just going to make my own.
Maybe make a flying squirrel outfit. bomb a hill up to speed. Raise my arms up exposing the flaps. Then I can glide off into the sky like Rocky from the Bullwinkle cartoon.
