    Default Roadrash

Hey guys, today I bit it harder than I usually do and just thought id tell you all about it, as well as ask a few questions.
So I was out with my friends, just cruising round town, and I had a really great time. When everyone started heading home I decided that I could just walk, instead of taking the bus.
Since I was just coming back from cruising, I only had my helmet, no gloves or pads. As I was walking down the hill that I always take to walk home, I decided to skate a hill or two. Now I never skate these hills but I was at a patch that had only about a 30* incline, and the hill only lasted about 60 or 70 feet before it was flat for a while again. So I stepped on and it was real easy and fun, and as I was almost at the end there was something in the pavement, I guess it was like a crack that the edge flared up really high because it caught my hangers and cut them up. Needless to say, I went flying and skidded down the road. Luckily there were no cars and I wasnt shredded up to bad, but what I found odd was that my biggest injury was on my left hand (I ride goofy) and that it was on the back of my hand, so somehow, I completely turned forward (I wasnt in a tuck) and my wrist turned around so that I scraped the back of my hand instead of my palm.
In total, I now have a shredded left hand (on the back) both elbows pretty deeply scraped, a cut in my pelvic area (from my belt buckle, and my belt was ripped in half by the "little spill" I took) a gash (from a rock?) on my left palm and my left knuckles shaved down (they're the deepest scrapes, quite scary looking, really)
So I am just asking if something like this has ever happened to you (the mid air 180) because I barely have a single ding on my right side (which is my front side) but my left side is shredded to pieces.

Thank you for your time. Shred and be safe

Roadrash is to be warn with pride. The scars make great stories at parties.

Wash it and clean it as best you can. Cover it for a while then let it air out. Repeat when you inevitably get more rash!

I think this is going to be my new mindset when skating, pain doesn't last for ever but new skills do.
The only problem is that its very uncomfortable to do anything with your arms/hands when you have it.

I always bust up my left side (especially my hip [regular]), sometimes I get a little on my right knee/shoulder/elbow. It has to do with which shoulder you initially roll over.

I took my biggest fall a few months back. Invested in more pads.

Does anyone know if the fact that my board is a flexy bamboo deck contributed to it? or would I have fallen just as hard on, say, a demonseed?

As I read this, one question crossed my mind.

Why did you decide you were going to walk home when you had your board in hand?

But to answer your question, taking a gnarly spill from time to time just means you're pushing yourself, and the road rash is there to prove it!

You probably would have fallin just the same, cracks are cracks. Only bigger wheels/early grabs could have saved you.

    or pads. :/

Well, there you have it. I guess getting a roadrash serves as baptism for every rider entering this sport. I haven't had my share, yet.

There was this rather humorous moment when I went down a hill to an intersection. The light was red and traffic was cutting across. Not having enough time, I stomped my foot down. The board went elsewhere. I had to find it underneath some parked cars. Ah well, could be worse.
A board is a board is a, umm... board.
