Re: Is this considered just a crummy drift or a really crummy slide?
you are over rotating your head/shoulders and not unweighting the board enough. the combination of those two problems results in over rotation and more grip meaning you turn rather than slide.
like everyone said, more speed! weight your hand more and keep your head looking in the direction of travel while rotating your shoulders. also drop that back knee, it will distribute your weight more evenly across the board rather than directly on top of the truck.

Re: Is this considered just a crummy drift or a really crummy slide?
It's actually on a mediocre hill, the camera is just leaning back against a light pole giving the impression it's flat, I can get up to ~15mph if I tuck and continue down the parking lot more. Also my pants aren't sagging so much just the under armor rides up on me lol.
Thanks for the tips I'll have to go out and try to focus more on leaning on my hand and try and find another hill, the cops have chased me out of all my previous areas and can't find any others. ;_;

Grabbing rail is fine. People are talking more about grabbing between your legs "stingkbug" Vs. behind your leg, which is more stable and considered the proper way to do it.

Kick your back leg out more.
I LOVE two handed slides. That's how I shutdown my rides. It's mad easy, looks steezy, and make mom weezy.
Sliding isn't turning hard, it's turning the board hard. Don't look at is as a whole. The object is to break the board free and keep your momentum.

Even grabing rail the "right" way limits your head and shoulder rotation. If you are looking to do big steezy coleman pendys, don't grab rail. If you are looking to limit the slide for speedboarding/drifting/pre-drifting grab rail.

Agreed. Grabbing limits motion greatly. I'm 6' 2" 190 lbs. I feel way better with my hands free, though I do occasionally grab a rail out of habit. Depends on what I'm doing and how fast I go.

No problem. Hope that helped you out. It also helps if you keep your eyes down the direction you are looking.

YES!!!
Grabbing rail restricts your shoulder's rotation (as String said), which means your body can't rotate, and it makes it that hard to break out into a slide, and to control it.
Learn not to grab rail; it's a bit "scary" at first, but you learn to love it.
