I've tried sliding it and the wheels wont budge, they are just huge fat generic polyeurethane wheels, nothing special. Thinking about picking up some new bigzigs or strikers. Which are better for sliding?and does anyone have any tips for doing good 180 slides?thanks
Get some hard 66mm strikers, probably anything above 84a and you should be able to slide fine. I myself have lime bigzigs and they slide fine especially once there broken in but I think strikers will be better (I was thinking about getting strikers in the highest duro.) And are you talking about stand up 180 slides?

With the stand up you should start of with more weight on the front foot because it will be easier to slide the back wheels around. On the toeside you have got to twist your head around with the slide or else it will just turn into a speed check. And you have to have some ok speed, definitely on the frontside. Also use your arms.

All the way! I've got 78 duro strikers and they slide like a dream. Wouldn't recommend bigzigs, no matter how careful you are you're bound to chunk em some time. I've been sliding my strikers nonstop for like, 3 months, and only now are they barely starting to get the hourglass shape.

Your right, if you get bigzigs your taking the risk of them chunking, usually only one of them will chunk but still they ride nicely and once there broken in the can slide pretty nice.

^^^ It's not only the chunking: lipped wheels tend to hV A CHATTERY SLIDE.

66mm 84a Strikers are great: smooth if the pavement is at least decent, very drifty and predictable and with hands down they slide a lot for a soft wheel. Great wheels.

Hard or soft bushings when sliding?

and does temperature affect sliding?

Hardness of bushings and looseness of trucks really depend on personl preference. I slide on softer bushings and looser trucks compared to most.

Yes, temperature has minor effects on sliding (warmer = stickier), but overall it's negligble to me.

Edit: negligible compared to the importance of proper technique.

I'd go for gumballs 81a or Hawgs 80a for a hybrid wheel rather than the Bigz. I'm not hating on the bigz, I just feel more safer sliding the gumballs.

Good luck!
Thanks Jat awesome video Ive watched a few but not as in depth as this one in terms of weight distribution. Good thread guys learned a lot. My wheels are a bit soft I think it was a really cheap board so they don't even have density on them but I'm selling my car soon and will get a new board more suited.

I s pose my only question is I have a "tear drop shaped' long board 85 Cm long thats about I dunno 34 inch. SO question, different shaped boards are easier or harder to slid is the one in the video classified as a trick / slid board? Ive been told my board is fine but would like a few peoples opinions before I buy a new one...

Thanks guys

I'm a skateboarder (shortboard) and I want to get into sliding but I've never done it before so I don't want to spend a whole lot of money just yet just in case.

I've got an extra skateboard and I was wondering if it would be possible to use that to start out so that all I have to do is make gloves and buy elbow pads. You guys said anything's slideable but I just want to double check. The specs are:

Mini logo deck - 7.75 x 31.75
Bullet Trucks
Bullet wheels - 51 mm / 101a
and I'm 5' 6 and 114 lbs so I'm pretty small. Is this okay just to start with?
I just started sliding and it took me about 4 days to be able to do it on command, well just the colman. I am 5' 4", 130 lbs with a
40" madrid pin missile deck
randall 180 trucks
81a lime 70mm zigzags
it should be really easy with your setup compared to mine.
just keep all of your weight on your slide gloves perform it at your top speed on level ground and it will slide.
the only reason I wanted to learned how to slide is so I can stop.
wear a helmet. I don't have the toe side slide down yet. I failed to take the weight off my board and put it on my hands. My board just stuck when i turned it side ways and I scraped up my whole back and if I wasn't wearing my helmet I would have had a concussion, but I was and I didn't even end up with a head ache.

I've been trying to slide my Lime bigZigs, but getting alot of chatter. And i chunked a wheel just a little a few days ago. Should i just keep trying to slide 'em and they'll break in, or should i order a set of higher durometer wheels?

Rotate 'em; tear'em up, then get a higher duro wheel.

New to the longboarding world and haven't done much except cruising. I some sliding videos and I know that I defintely want to do it. I was wondering what the best setup would be for 6'4" 190 lb kid first of all and then what exactly should I try first?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Get a slide deck between 35" and 38" (there are many)
Get conventional pivot trucks
Get tech slide wheels (>95a, double radiused edges)
Get slide gloves/make your own
Start from a Coleman 180
Have fun!

Since you're on the bigger side of things, the EW Bigfoot may be a good fit. I'm about 6'1 180lbs, and it's a solid board. My size 12s have no problem finding a comfortable position on it since it's 36x10. The complete from MHS is a pretty sweet deal, you get the deck, Indy 215s and EW Slide As for about $160. Set it up with some stiffer bushings since the stock Indy bushings are kinda floppy and you're golden. Some pads and a helmet would be a good idea too. Search around and find a tutorial on making slide gloves or buy some.
