I got into sliding from a friend who professed his faith in it and just picked up my first sliding board.
My question is, does width and looseness/turning radius really matter?
For reference, I got;
Earthwing Slider 35"
&
EW Slide A's
I plan to put the Slide A's on Holey's because they are the best (at least for this purpose) of the three that I have. Will this work well or should I invest in a narrower truck?
Thought I would bump/hijack rather than starting a new thread.
How much does truck width affect slide perfromance?
Earthwing drifter on indy 169's vs. Earthwing Bigfoot on indy 215's
Although the difference in deck size is different, how do different width trucks slide? I'm sure some hardcore sliders have tried both and can chime in. Thanks.

im not so sure about truck width, but i've heard you want your trucks to be a little bit tigher than usual. i dont know though, im not a real big slider so i cant really tell the difference. i seem to do okay with them looseish. i read that you want them tighter though because sliding is really rough on your gear and causes a lot of pressure on your trucks so if theyre loose, you catch too much pressure in a lean and make the wheels grip and you take off in a turn.
im going to keep an eye on this thread just so i can find out for sure too.
rowdy, I got the same deck and wheels as you. at first i did not like it, I learned to slide on a longer board with wider wheels.but after time a went back to the earthwing set-up and I love it. try out your trucks and you'll either like it or not(mine has 169 indys)
My first slide board set-up had 215 indy's w/ Noskool abec11 wheels (98a I think). It was on a 40" deck with 1/2" risers. I liked it for learning but now I can get more technical on my earthwing set-up
So do trucks make that much of a difference? I'm using my skate deck with superballs right now, but I'm thinking of just getting a drifter deck, and then the indy's later on. Would the trucks make a huge difference?

well you want more response. indy 169's have great response and therefor slide easier. then again with good slide wheels it's not gonna make a huge difference. but it all comes down to the bottom line; you can slide anything.

i've ridden all of the following for decent periods of the past year...all work well on my 35"/38" drifters:
indy 169s, my fav all around truck, super responsive, leave you feeling in control of your board at ALL times on the hill, lack a very surfy feel, not super stable at high speed slides (granted i like to pull colemans/flatspins on my slide deck going 25+mph, the slide As make it sketchy enough)
tracker 161s, very comparable to indys, less responsive, more surfy and more flow when you skate with them, good all around truck as well, carve smoother than indys, not as super responsive, fairly stable for high speed slides, though i don't like how i can't just flick my board in a slide in them as well, with the right bushings they basically are indys.
holeys (171s i beleive)
not very practical for an all around board, they make dropping in at the park sketchy and don't grind curbs that well, main reason i don't have them anymore, they also add leverage on your deck if you're doing lots of street tricks, not as good.however, they're uncomparable on the hills themselves, i use them on a downhill set up right now, great carvers, great for sliding, like indys but more stable, very very stable at high speeds, probably good for a beginner sliding. only thing is the bushings tend to take a bit to break in properly before holeys will do what you want, and the way they turn and feel takes a bit getting used to.
sorry for the short essay..
i've found my favorite to be indys though, just because of how much control i have when i'm using them, and once you get used to them at speed and chill, they're fine, but i used to wobble on them fairly often when i was first doing high speed slides.
Dang. I might have to get these trucks then. The main reason I'm getting a new deck is cuz my street deck doesn't have enough foot space. I guess I'll just add the trucks later.

not really what i was referring to but 215s are wider so they're less responsive. for quick slides more response is better so 169s might be better. however i wouldn't say it's going to be a very noticeable difference.
