There are a lot of slide beginners out there and I have just found out some helpful information. I used to ride Black 95a Khiros tightened down hard. This allowed me to throw some gnarly slides, but without having the ability to really turn on my slide deck, I had to stick every single slide. I mean this by I would have to make sure the board was completely straight rolling down the hill to properly roll away from each slide. I have now converted over to looser 93a bushings and have a better ability to carver in and out of every slide. Not only does it allow me to have a smoother style, but to have an easier ability to recover from each slide. Hope this helps...have fun skating!
oi!
too loose trucks are no good because it makes it a lot easier to over weight things and lose control, i like my trucks pretty tight but still enough to turn.
I've also found I flatspot less with looser trucks, I think the wheels weight more evenly.
That said I'm a firm believer in the middle ground — not tight - not loose.
I'm also far from the best slider out there, so...

I use the Blue Tracker 90a super balls from my Tracker Mid-tracks over the orange 93a ones which came with my Tracker Six Tracks. I feel much safer and in control after the switch so I agree with the Captain.
However I also agree with Crappysurfer that the trucks can't be too loose. I've been tossed off several times riding my slide setup with too loose trucks, so softer bushings and medium-tight trucks for me.
I run Indy 215's on my slide deck, so loose is the only way to go. I've tried sliding really tight trucks and it seems really awkward and it's harder for me to come out clean.

steveC- i will vouch for looser trucks making it more prone to flatspot wheels, its something i have found as well
I flat spotted my sergios on really loose trucks on and I only way 115 pounds. I like trucks that are medium tight because you can turn it a bit and it just feels better IMO.
I agree w/ the middle ground but i lean more toward tight/mid because i like to bomb really fast on my slide deck and too loose of trucks are flat out dangerous...
If you're going w/ loose trucks make sure to throw another riser pad under it so you dont get wheel bite on a standup and eat $hit like i did, hahaha
Any wheel will flatspot, we all know that.
it's just that I've found that the wheel seems to lock at a earlier angle if the trucks are tight.
particularly heelside tail.
It may well depend on style though.
I'd also go so far as to say that a heavier rider is more prone to it. There's more force side-loading the bearings so they stop spinning more readily.

Yeah thats how my trucks are set up at the moment. I definitely should have named the thread looser trucks for sliding, because ridiculously loose trucks are no good, and trucks that you cannot carve on do not work as well.
Set up my Indy's recently with blue Stims and they're real nice. I like a fairly loose/surfy setup so I can carve into standers and stay rad with a surfy style, but not too loose where I get wheelbite or can't balance on two wheels.
strange i prefer tighter trucks. I mean i don't tighten them down like crazy but they deff are on the tighter end, i find i break away so much easier, when i'm goin into tech slides with loose trucks they just start flexing every time i hit any friction. Maybe it's just me but i think tighter trucks make it easier to break away and rope in a bunch of slides in one line
