So after successfully making a pair of slide gloves, i proceded to learn sliding. I finally started getting it on my 46" pintail with 75a wheels. It was more drifting at first and finally spins towards the end of the day. So after being on the forums for a while and reading that harder wheels slide better i tried sliding on my kick fliper deck with hard wheels, but no matter how hard i tried and what i did, i only ended up turning off in to the grass. Why is this?
Also, any suggestions on initiating slides quicker? i.e. i seem to have to turn before i can break loose, is there any way to change this with technique opposed to harder slide wheels?
I'm no expert, but if i know imma have a hard time getting the wheels loose I wind up a little with my upper body and give it a little power, but yeah i have an extremely hard time sliding on a Popsicle stick board, the deck is just too narrow, and i learned how to slide on 90 something duro wheels and then moved to softer wheels, so.. i suppose you are ahead of the curve
loosen your trucks on your street deck and you should be able to break the traction if your having trouble. in sliding you need pretty loose trucks so your board gets sideways faster as you push it out from under you.

Re: Big board slides, little one doesn't?
there's a number of things in play here...leverage, first of all. a longer board will allow you to get more "twist" out of it, and therefore slide better. along with that, the shortboard may be too small for you to get into proper position. i know "if you can ride it, you can slide it" but since you're a beginning slider, this will be a bigger issue. finally, i have noticed that wheels on shortboards like to REALLY grip on certain surfaces. my spitfires, on my shortboard, grip like a mofo on concrete; partially because that's what they're designed to do...be fast and grippy on concrete.

:o No, that was useless to me just tell me so I don't have to put that much effort into it.

Well it was a recently sealed paved road, so pretty uniform surface with little bumps/cracks. And i think the shortboard trucks are tighter, so i'll try loosening the trucks up and see if that helps. thanks.
i learned the basics on my street board. spitfire wheels and grind kings.
i found smaller wheelbase it was easier to slide cause your feet are more over the trucks. if your front foot is over the front truck and your back foot is like midway then you wont have as good control than you would with your back foot over the back truck.
i learned on soft wheels too, 78a no-names and a krown kicktail deck.
biggest advice is just throw your body weight onto your gloved hands, with wheels this soft you're gonna need to be really parallel to the ground until they're super broken in.
