Re: i need some harder slides
i can't do shuvits either. does anyone know if harder wheels would help? i swear its because my freakin board is too heavy..... or maybe i'm not strong enough.

I believe there are 4 basic slide positions, not counting stand-ups.
Berts/Colemans, any heelslide with your front hand on the street. I put 2 handed heelslides in this category too
Toeslides, laid out or compressed
Sergios, a heelslide with only your back hand on the street
and Pressure Spins, hard to explain..search for Chris Dahl on youtube and watch the first thing that comes up
within those slides there are more subtleties, for instance you can do a sergio slide with your hips way up in the air, or in a sort of fakie-dropknee stance (knee pads recommended) and you can turn any of them into a 5-0 slide if you get 2 of your wheels off the ground, or you can try cross stepping or doing a 1 footed slide, grabbing your board in different places, etc. There are too many possibilities to list them all.
and if you still want more options, there's the weird stuff: knee slides, helmet slides, etc. just remember a lot of people find it cheesy if you slide on your pads more than on your wheels.
start with 360/720/1080 berts and toeslides, then work on connecting some heel rotations to some toe rotations (or toe to heel) with a pendulum in the middle. Then learn sergio slides and pressure spins, they're both a bit harder but give you a lot more possibilities for combos. Sergio pendulum to toe spins, heel 360 to pressure spins, heel 360 to toe 720, toe 540 to fakie toe 540.
Thats what I love about sliding, its not really about doing an individual trick, instead you have a set of basic positions that you can vary, chain together, and improvise. Sometimes I don't even know what kind of slide I'm doing until I'm halfway through it. Put your hand on the street and start jamming, your only limitations are your speed and your courage.

when i first started hitting shuvits i just focused on getting the board around before jumping to land. before you flick it and jump make sure the board is well into spinning.
I'm working on the knee slide where you take your front foot of the board and slide with the knee pad plus your board in 5.0 position right next to it. It looks sick, but I'm not really there yet. The most intimidating part is just getting your foot off at speed and then there's the cramped up positions you end up in trying to grab the nose while ... - It's hard, but not frustrating.
Then there's the stand-up slides. I learned power slides by starting learning reverts, later I did the reverts at higher speeds as I got used to the feeling I tried turning into the slide and just giving it an extra push. The shoulder and hip movements is pretty much second nature now, but I'm just starting with the ''backwards'' powerslide. I'm not sure if it's frontside or backside, but it sure as hell is hard to pull off compared to the one that lets you look down the hill instead of over you back shoulder.
