Default Difficulty with sharing the slide stoke

I need not expound upon the actual and mystical virtues of sliding to those of you on this forum because you are already in the know. I’ve been lurking around the ”fish” for about two years and I embraced this discipline about a year ago.

A few months ago, I left a post on another site inquiring about whom else was interested in sliding. This other site caters mainly to older skaters in my state and old school related disciplines. The three replies I got were sarcastic or firmly disinterested. To add insult to injury the three respondents have all skated pro, one was the site admin, and they are some of the most respected members on that site.

I’m not going to name this other site because other than the above incident. I generally like the site, and the guys that dissed sliding also post regularly on the “fish.” This also has deterred me from even trying post on the regional section of this site.

Anyway, enough of my whining, I do skate with a couple of old friends and they occasionally will participate in slide sessions. I’m not really looking for advice, but I’m curious why I got such a negative repose on that other site? Is there a stigma to sliding that I’m unaware of? Also how big is skateboard sliding in your area? Is it a big scene or are you the only one sliding for miles around or something in between?

yeah, I don't really know anyone IRL who likes sliding as much as I do. I think we're definitely skateboard nerds. oh well, obviously I don't care, cause it's wicked awesome, and whatnot.

I think it's kind of like the middle ground of skating, between "longboarding" and "skateboarding", imo.

no matter what else i get into while skating, sliding was the original thing i did...and is still my fav...nothing can beat the rush of it and how unique it is to each and every skater...i love it...

I have to admit DHing is awesome...but i still have a special place in my heart for grinding urethane

I’m not sure why you caught the hate with out seeing the whole picture. I’ve seen sliding used in every discipline. Speedboarding uses more ground, and I constantly see various slides and lots of standups in pool/park/ditch/street. But tech sliding does seem to have less dedicated participants, no one near me practices it. Those that do freak it develop it to an art form i.e. Dahl, Sergio, and all those underground rippers from Brazil to Canada.

The ollie however may be the culprit that steals away so many from pursuing or even trying the more technical side of sliding. If you watch “robromulan” youtube clips you can see his style becoming more and more diverse. I my self have fallen victim to this “ollie” it has put a slight pause on my usual routine. I kinda wanna see what it’s like to grind something, find some stairs, check that bowl out from the inside and see what all the fuss is about. There is some impossible magic about the ollie and everything that follows. For me the fact that the impossible is completely attainable simply by doing it and doing it and doing it is what keeps me doing it.

Sorry for all the rambling. Who the hell knows why you got the response you did and why a slider doesn’t have his own mtv show. Enjoy your board, enjoy your style, peace.

Once again I have spent too much of my life on the fish, I’m off to ollie microscopic obstacles and soak another shirt with sweat.

fck the haters, do what makes you happy. I can understand not enjoying sliding but looking down at it as a whole is just dumb. I think sliding is an essential part of longboarding because lets face it footbreaking is so much lamer than throwing a slide and sliding can be used to take a fast corner better (drifting)

I have a pretty big slide scene by me, as I skate with the earthwing crew pretty often so I can't say I know what thats like.

WHAT???!!! who doesn't like sliding, drifting, doing donuts, burn outs or anything thats distructive. lol. i've grown up sliding everything that has wheels. fourwheelers, bicycles, motorcycles, dirt bikes, cars, trucks, lawnmowers, even the g*dda*mn grocier buggy at the grocery store. don't laugh you know you've done it. r/c cars & trucks.
i can't explain it, nor do i care to. it doesn't need an explaination because it brings joy, and fun, and excitment. if someone doesn't understand that and wants to look down upon you for it, then f*ck'em.
keep skating and doing what you enjoy. the hell with everybody else.

blake
p.s. i have yet to learn
to slide my longboard. therefor
my excitment for sliding will grow
even more.

I just started sliding and I'm stoked on it. Some kids in my neighborhood saw me trying to learn colemans and now they're all making slide gloves too.
I had my first dedicated slide session Tuesday. I found out that my ChinEvo with NoSkoolz is not as good of a sliding setup as my street board. Here's the footy. Any feedback?

Johnson City you look like your having a blast. I lke your little kicks you do after you bail. Everybody thanks for the replies. Of course I will keep sk8ing. I've done my own thing my whole life and I've always had a bit of an F.U. attitude.
When tried to share something great with skaters in my town and when the prominent locals who actually work hard to promote longboarding in my area dismissed me, I just got a little confused and bummed out.

But, this is a classic story, and I don;t have to hang with the popular kids. So I've to re-realize that those other old farts can go FCK themselves. Maybe I'll post on the regional forum and try to share the stoke again
