Rad thread! I've been sliding for 3 or so years now and I love it and would never stop. This last year has been really awesome so I'm stoked on that. My riding is finally getting to where I'm pretty happy with my progress although I'll never stop learning new stuff.

Subscribing to this thread...

It's not like a t/s pendy where you might want to get your butt way down low and your board far away from you. I like to think of hand-down 360s as more confined to a "bubble" of space. Your body and board stay much tighter together.

Try keeping your knees bent more on the first half so that when you lift your back hand and begin the second half of the slide, your deck is closer to your body. Then, keep your knees bent and dropped close to the deck, just like in a coleman. Swing your back hand across your body like a rudder and look where you want to go (in the direction of the rotation).
Kyle this is an excellent description!

However, I found that you don't necessarily have to do it this way. My toeside 360's are not nearly as quick/snappy and look more like a pressure spin [see vid]

Gav, I've had trouble with this too. The switch from two hands to one hand always gave me some problems.

Here's my version of a 2-handed t/s 360. I just now uploaded it because I thought it might help you out a bit. I took this short little run from a new slide vid I've been workin' on

from what i've been told
flatspins are where you kinda pull yourself round with your hands and kind of pump with your body, where you go 180 then straighten out your legs to get the next 180.

whereas pressure spins you just sue pressure i guess, and it pulls you round.
not sure how its done but thats what i've been told
but i can't really do either so im no expert

Pressure spins are actually a pretty tricky slide. I can get 1080s but there's so much potential to lose your board when doing them.

Yeah, I think it's the same basic motion, but you have your legs extended much further from your body than I generally do. Having both hands down probably helps in that kind of style.

Have you tried one-handed 360s (TS and HS)? They're a blast; you just kinda plant your downhill hand and your whole body/board whiz around in one super quick motion.

I always thought pressure-spins and flatspins were the same but I can see where people find a difference. I thought that difference was just a different way of doing the same slide.

Great Stuff!
There is a difference between flatspins and pressure spins. In a pressure spin you lift the hip to get past the sticking point (pressure, release, pressure). While there should be no lift, a very low position and pressure on the deck throughout for a flatspin. It also helps the flow if you do them as a 540, using your rear hand to sweep you back on top.
I really enjoy both snappy and drawn out 360s, or slow in fast out and fast in slow out. How about nose or tail in with a 4 wheel finish done in the same way ? Also try going to 270 then snap back to 180, holding the end of the 270.
Try them, film it, share with us.
Slide and Die, Mark.

I finally got my first backside standing 360's. Thanks for your advice Will and Mark, just did as you said and it worked. It also takes a lot of commitement. I'm so stoked.

Nice, congrats man.

I've been working on frontsides every now and then. The fakie backside rotation is just scary as hell for me!

Lol switch toeside (backside I think idk I don't use the normal skater terminology) 180's scare me (I can do them, i'm just not as comfortable when I start going faster than my kicking speed) I couldn't imagine doing a 360 that way. I am still stuck on the phase of just linking up a bunch of 180's, I haven't had the commitment to go for a 360.

W0000t! Nice advice dudes! We had a quality slide session last night. I managed to get 3 consectutive toeside 3's using the advice from you guys, super stoked! Had a glimmer of getting them smoother, think next session will be the one where I figure it out perfect.

Landed a 720 something, either flatspin or pressure spin, I'll jam a video of it up later and we'll see what it was...

Next question on one of my 'sticky' slides then. 1h TS pendy. I can do them 180 just fine and dandy, but bringing it back round to regular seems really hard, it just wants to slowly whip round to 180 it seems, any advice?

This thread is gonna be helping my performance at SLIDE QUEST immensely heh.

I'm not sure exactly what you're doing but keep on the rail of the board a bit so it wants to carve and pendy back to regular. Also play around with the weighting of your hands during the slide. Look where you're going and control it with your upper body gradually pushing your way back out.

@ 2:00 is this video I made there's a pretty long toeside pendy if you can see how I'm doing it. Try going a bit faster too, with speed I find it helps control the board alot and you can really put it where you want it to go, with all kinds of slides.

oh didn't realize you meant 1 handed. Well same advice pretty much besides the weighting between hands. I prefer 1 handed anyway. You have one arm free, use it with your upper body to control the slide even more easily.
