Can't wait for race day.

Re: Cone Fest, Ashland Kentucky
There is a camp ground outside of town that Jeff Goad and company stayed at last year. I didn't hear them complain about it so it must be alright. I do not know the name of said camp ground at the moment. I'll see what I can dig up.

Re: Cone Fest, Ashland Kentucky
Yes the downhill is a speed trap. If it is like other speed traps I have ridden you have the timing strips set up at the bottom. You have both the start and stop strip set up spaced out just enough to register a usable time. You have to hit both strips for the run to count.
On shorter hills I have seen it done with a start strip at the top and the stop strip at the bottom.
Either way it is one racer at a time and you are racing the clock for fastest time.
There are plenty of hills in the area. Talk to the local guys for details.

Re: Cone Fest, Ashland Kentucky
Awwwwrrrriiiiiiight!!!!!!! Heaviest dude wins!!!!! I've already got a great head start on y'all for that. I'm going to McDonald's for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for the next couple days. It may totally kill whatever chance I had for a non-last place finish in the slaler events, but I'm gonna win something while I'm there!
Although ... the more I think about it. Say you have two balls, the same size, but different weights; if you roll them down a hill, the heavier one will prolly get down the hill faster. But even though us fat guys weigh more, we're not as aero as you skinny dudes. So whatever advantage we pick up because of the extra weight, we lose because we have to push more air out of the way. It's one of those related rates problems you get in calculus. There must be an optimal weight/aero combination. You college kids figure it out and explain it to me at the race. I've forgotten most of the calculus I knew.

Too bad we can't all just race in a vaccum
no air resistance, and everyone has the same effects from the pull of gravity, everyone could win

While we're at it, how 'bout friction-free cryogenic bearings?

Re: Cone Fest, Ashland Kentucky
Momentum beats wind resistance. I was running neck and neck with Lenny at a race and we got hit with a head wind. Me, being the smaller man, lost the most speed thanks to the head wind and lost to Lenny as a result. So the bigger skater still wins. Just ask Mig.
